As average as he was, Siddle was the team's second best bowler for the match. Doesn't say much for the other bowlers, one of whom has five times the Test experience as Siddle does FC games.
Siddle's only contribution was to deny Midge a 9 for by getting the No 11 out. He didn't look like taking a wicket otherwise.
Lee's bowling on Day 4 was outstanding and unlucky.
Siddle was involved in 2 decent last wicket partnerships. What did Lee do with the bat?
lee played anything short from Dar's lap at square leg

Phurt. So all that did was extended the match to Tea on Day 5.
Aus could've set the Yarps 470 and they still would've got them by the end of play on Day 5, the way they were going.

phurt...complete dross...had we set a target where there was not oodles of time, then scorebaord pressure may have helped...and we could have snuck off with a draw..

Ah well maybe with the benefit of hindsight we can achieve that in the next two matches and escape with a 0-1 loss.

I am worried that with the current lineup that we will be whitewashed...saffies have more improvement in their team- notably snorkel and stain

Aye, h.
Now that they have proved they can get through a match without choking (although they did take the gas big time in the 1st innings), I fear they'll be unstoppable.

"roy, mtb, clark, bunk are too old or not good enough for an ashes tour"
Sym's averageing about 57 with the bat this year, and was one of the few players who earned his lunch money in the most recent match.
Harsh on Clark. Did you mean Clarke?

Our only hope is that there are some Australians in that category.

I suspect it might be the other way - that is, we've got our best performances from the series from Midge and Haddin.

True.
But...
Symo did throw away his wicket twice when Australia needed him to continue.
And when Haddin out bats him and when Crazy almost matches Symmo's run aggregate, it's not saying much about how Symmo earned his match fee.

The fight back from there was the impressive part.

No the fightback to get Australia's 2nd innings to 7/162 was impressive.
It was not impressive to allow the last three wickets get another 150 runs.

That was part of the fluctuations. The fight back overall was impressive. In the past we have folded from there.

Re: Has Merv Hughes cost us two series?
we are playing worse than the pomgolians atm, so it is apt...selecting horrorhead who has taken just 14 first class wickets in 3 years is dreadful...he has a strike rate approaching one wicket every 15 overs...hopefully Hilf will get a go and potential (siddle) will be persisted with, as well as bringing in Watto...the outs aside from crazy are the Sponsors Exemption and the specialist batsman allrounder (Roy)

I don't think anyone will disagree with you, h. A baffling decision by the NSP. I guess the fact that 4 of those wickets where one Test ago counted in his favour.

then hilditch is even more hopeless than I thought...NZ is not much better than a district cricket team and not up to first class stsutus let alone test status
