Wooley was a keeper batsman ... a better keeper than Haddin, and a very good batsman at his peak. Played a couple of Test matches.

Woolley was the Aust keeper after Marsh. He didn't last long but unfortunately for him most of his tests were against the mid 80s Windies.

Any of McIntrye, Holland. Hohns could replace Hauritz.

Late 90s Elliot for Hayden of course.


Healy was 4 years after MArsh - we had Woolley, Phillips, Rixon and Dyer in between. Each had their faults although Rixon was a good keeper but didn't have bowlers to create many chances.

I also mentioned Kevin Wright and Tim Zoehrer.

Poor Wayne B Phillips wasn't even keeping for South Australia when some bright spark suggested that he should keep for Australia, thus ruining a perfectly good opening batsman.

I still recall WBP's Test debut against Pak when he just fell short of Bannerman's debut record and put on 250 odd with Yallop. He was a very talented batsman but had the misfortune of playing in our darkest era. He was unlucky not to score a ton in the 85 Ashes IIRC.
