West Indies Domestic Season 2009
This should be of interest to England fans as anyone who does well will probably play test cricket against them (especially if they are an opener, wicket keeper, fast bowler or spinner).
One of the most important FC seasons in our history takes place this year as we try and fill up some of the positions in the Senior team that are holding back our progress as an improving test match side. The WICB have made an uncharacteristically brilliant move in lengthening the season to accommodate home and away fixtures. IMHO the biggest problem our cricket was facing was the lack of FC fixtures for our youngsters so this is fantastic news. Also, it means FC matches will be taking place during our international season so players on the fringe will be match ready for the first time in years.
The first round of matches is on Friday:
Players to watch IMHO:
Adrian Barath (T & T) - Right hand opener
Dale Richards (Barbados) - Right hand opener
Devon Smith (Windwards) - Left hand opener
Kieron Powell (Leewards) - Left hand opener
Ryan Hinds (Barbados) - Left hand middle order
Leon Johnson (Guyana) - Left hand middle order
Runako Morton (Leewards) - Right hand middle order
Daren Bravo (T & T) - Left hand middle order
Devon Thomas (Leewards) - Right hand wicket keeper/batsman
Davendra Bishoo (Guyana) - Right Arm Leg spinner
Amit Jaggernauth (T & T) - Right Arm Off spinner
Dave Mohammed (T & T) - Left Arm Chinaman
Kemar Roach (Barbados) - Right Arm fast
Nelson Pascal (Windwards) - Right Arm fast
Jason Dawes (Jamaica) - Right Arm fast

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2009
Pascal and Roach can both reach 90mph. Jason Dawes has never been tested by a speed gun but can bowl seriously quickly already and he is only 19. Jason Bennett from Barbados can probably get up to 90mph but he is not consistently up there.
The list of West Indian bowlers who can/have bowled at 90 mph in recent years is as follows (Stanford series had speed guns):
Edwards (97 mph)
Best (95 mph)
Taylor (95 mph)
Powell (94 mph)
Roach (90 mph)
Rampaul (90 mph)
Gavin Tonge (90mph)
Kelbert Walters (90 mph - aged 18 )

Brilliant...
Taylor, Edwards and Roach would probably be a top 3 pace attack in the world.

Re: West Indies Domestic Season 2009
Tino Best is a tragic case of talent without a properly functioning cricket brain.
Mind the windows, bowling short short and shorter, no variation etc. His career might be over soon given that Ruel Braithwaite will be returning to Barbados next year.

WIFAN,
Any of these 90 mph left handed because that can be really handy as we see with some one like Mitchell Johnson.

Even if they aren't 90mph - Sidebottom, Zaheer Khan.
Adds variety.

Sidebottom is quite sharp at most times(around 138-142 ish)Clamson wrote:Even if they aren't 90mph - Sidebottom, Zaheer Khan.

after 8+ years of international cricket ZAK has become a very skillful bowler but if you remember in the early part of his career(00-03ish) ZAK was quite sharp and impressed a lot of people. For the next 3 years or so he almost totally disappeared and was turning in to a wasted talented but for the last 2 years he has added a lot of variety in his bowling and is arguably the 2nd best fast bowler in the world today.

No left armers of any pace in our cricket unfortunately.
Adrian Barath out to a superb leg cutter from Corey Collymore for 0
Not quite what I was hoping for tbh.

Kieron Powell makes a solid 31 before inexplicably charging down the wicket and getting bowled.
What is it with our youngsters? Geez..

WIFAN,
How do you follow these matches? As I've noticed, cricinfo do not cover them. Then are they televised or even radio commentary is available? Or do you depend upon your newspapers?

Have the Windies selectors completely written off Collymore? At least he's accurate, and he always seems to be unlucky.

He joined Sussex on a kolpak so he can't play for the West Indies. Same story with Dwayne Smith.
Daren Ganga now has 4000 runs in West Indian domestic cricket at an average of 45. Such a shame that he chokes whenver he gets to test match level.
