I think Seles before she was stabbed would have topped them all. Seles as a teenager was beating Graf who was in her prime.

On that we do agree Salim. Seles was absolutely amazing. It's a shame we never got to see her career run a natural course.
As for the Lara v Tendul... ah, I mean Sampras v Federer discussion. I'll have more to say, but the weekend calls.
P.S. I'll just add to the praise for last night's match. It was a great match when it was only three sets old. They maintained that standard until well into the fifth set. I'm sorry to see Verdasco lose but happy to see a Nadal/Federer final.

6-0 first set don't deserve equal pay for that sort of rubbish exhibition

Serena ends the abomination 6-3 in the 2nd. It could so easily have been 6-0 6-0
I felt embarrassed watching it.
Does it cost the same to see a Women's final as a Men's?

That was as sh1t as it was predictable.
Serena is so far ahead of the rest of the chicks it isn't funny.
Re Seles - agree that she was incredible pre stabbing.

Knowles really started to fold halfway through the doubles match. Bhapathi again misses out on completing his career grand slam.

If women played the same amount of sets as men then I'd be fine with equal pay, it just doesn't seem fair on the blokes who have to do much more work to get the same amount of money that the women do.

Hard to feel sorry for a bloke who's made a $5m living out of playing doubles, and never been in the top 200 in singles.OP Tipping wrote:Bhapathi again misses out on completing his career grand slam.

Re: Oz Open Tennis 2009
To get to a place of modernity, women have been fighting the glass ceiling and for equality since they emerged from the kitchen. Tennis is one of the VERY rare situations where women get their own back, so to speak.
I find it amazing that men complain about the inequality of it all, since from a woman's perspective, that's what we've been living with since time dot - and still are - yet men haven't gone on the rampage about it. I'm not trying to take the feminist soapbox, just saying what is.
It's a personal call, if women's tennis bores you to , or if it pleases you. Of course women aren't as powerful as men, but they have the same skills and craft and they do the same amount of work to achieve their goals.
I guess the powers that be see it's all relative - what's five sets to a male is three sets to a female.
While the match between Williams and Safina was a dud and embarrassing, so was the match between Federer and del Potro. I just marvelled at the skill and brilliance of both winners and the way they gave their opponents a masterclass.
btw, throughout the year not all men's matches are five setters.
Tonight's final should be a classic, if Nadal isn't too knackered.

women should be given the extra money which they should use to form organizations who would speak up against the horrible treatment against women all over the world including parts of Pakistan.

Some already do. And the men could also add their hard-earned to that pot. Although I'm sure some of them do too.
I agree - in the grand scheme of global female oppression, women's tennis issues are hardly top of the list of inequalities.

Agreed. Tennis is the one sport where watching women play is as enjoyable as watching guys play.

I doubt there is a genuine physiological reason preventing women from playing five set matches...

I get pleasure, from paying to watch women's tennis, so that must be what I deserve.
Bobby Riggs - not sure of your meaning. He'd already beaten Margaret Court, then went after King, because of her feminist stance. She beat him- not much of a victory for a twentysomething woman over a fiftysomething man.

She's got a way to go before she beats Courts record of Slam wins...

I don't agree Serena is that far ahead... heck, she wasn't even number one until this match. She's won two grand slam titles out of the past eight: she's got competition, including from her sister.
