US Open Tennis 2011
Is it even going ahead considering the inclement weather.
If it does, the Joke still looks unstoppable. That will be three slams in one year.

The one thing I will miss from the US Open is the ritualistic flogging of li'll Leyton in the first round

that was 10 years ago S...tennis was clearly in a weird nadir at that time...christ even that Davis Cup and Wimbledon choker Pat rafter won a US (against the poo)....10 years ago was in the days when we were arguing about the koalas (i do credit you for coming to senses-eventually!!)

Lleyton Hewitt beat Pete Sampras in the final that year. Actually, he blew Sampras off the court. It was one of the most impressive victories I've seen in a Grand Slam Final.
And don't try to say Sampras was past his prime - Pistol Pete defeated Andre Agassi in the US Open final the following year.
And Rafter won two US Opens.

Re: US Open Tennis 2011
Surely Hewitt will retire? Clearly the body is now saying "no way." And how old is he now? 30? That's pretty old for a tennis player. If he's hoping for an Agassi style late career resurgence, he'll be disappointed, as he never had the quality of game that Agassi had in the first place.
As for this one, hard to go past the Joker, although he is under a bit of an injury cloud. Murray will look the business before going all timid in a semi final against one of the big three (Fed, Rafa, Joke) and crash out. He's the 2005-2009 Ian Bell of tennis....
Outsider worth having a bet on? Tsonga.

You have a funny definition of ritualistic. Last year was the first time Hewitt lost in the first round of a US Open.
Indeed, he once had a seven-year stretch where he did no worse than the quarter-finals, making it to three semis and two finals during that time.

hehehe...antipathy is tho...the only davis cup hero we've had in recent times is the poo...lil l and pat the rat ("i'm based in the bahamas for the weather - the fact that it is a tax haven is mere coincidence")...the point is that their GS wins came when tennis was at its nadir...sampras had declining powers

The little turd might have to retire soon, to keep his promise that he'll be gone before Bernie the Brat gets a seeding.

Those two statements don't seem nearly logically connected enough for the 'so' in between.

When does it start?. Are the Airports & subways going to be open to allow the players to get to the venue?

Well played, sir. Did you wear a Wannabee jumper in for added touch? And how many Gits mentions did you manage?embee wrote:skully wrote:Speaking of officiandos, how did the bluffing on Rugby knowledge go?embee wrote:G.Wood wrote:skully wrote:Er, didn't he win the thing?

Apparently BD. According to their website play starts on time 10am local, with the ludicrously-named German Tobias Kamke playing the even more ludicrously named local 8th seed Mardy Fish.
