"I'm comfortable enough with my hetrosexuality to say when a man is good looking."
Imagine how comfortable with his sexuality Mark Nicholas must be.

He was a regular top 10 or 20 player, US Open and Wmbledon finalist, beat Sampras in his prime while a teenager, 2 Davis Cups etc...

But he's blatantly gay- Mid 40's, no wife, screams "Oooooh yessss!" whenever a blonde Australian does something skilful with a wooden object in his hands....

How long was he in the top 20 for? About a year? Perhaps between 1995 and 2003 he was a genuinely good (if uncommited and more interested in shagging models) tennis player, but for the last 5 years of his career, it seemed like he was always coming back from some injury, and relying on wildcards to gain entry into the grand slams, where he more often than not was bundled out in the first round.
All in all, he was and is a talent completely unfulfilled.

Re: Oz Open Tennis 2009
The Poo obviously didn't perform as well as his talent suggested he should have but he had a decent career. Most players (eg Henman who was a top tenner for a decade) never even make a Slam final or win a Davis Cup, let alone win a dozen or so tournaments.

But if you take into account their entire careers, 99% of people would say that Henman was the better tennis player.

Now we don't have any decent players in the Men's Singles OR Men's Doubles category...
And we're down the toilet in the cricket.
The Pomgolians were even better than us at the Olympics. Don't even talk about the Rugby Union ... and not even Rugby League champions any more, and no one apart from us gives a crap about RL.
Australian sport in crisis.

I wouldn't have a strong feeling on whether MP was better than TH. I'd put them in a similar category.
FTR, their head to head record was Poo 4, Hen 3.

No doubt Phillopoussis had more talent than Henman, but Henman wanted it more, and had a bigger heart.

FFS - he virtually single handedly won the Davis Cup for us on clay.

Indeed.
He beat Grosjean and Pioline on clay in France - a great effort.
Nobody pays much attention to the Davis Cup unless their country is actually playing. But the pressure of a Davis Cup Final is amazing when you're in it.
Ask Pat Rafter what the biggest regret of his career is and he'll say not winning a Davis Cup Final (ahead of not winning Wimbledon).

Not sure about that. Everyone remembers Wimbledon champs, not sure if that holds for the Davis Cup.

Re: Oz Open Tennis 2009
The spiv ranga Spillane was on radio this morning talking about the first 5 set Aus Open final. Of course, this time 11 days back she was talking about the Cash/Wilander 5 setter.
Can anyone complete the picture for me? Was there somethere something unique about the match, apart from being Nadal's first win here?
