England unveil the players "management group"
Apart from Strauss, it will be Flintoff, Collingwood, Cook, and Broad. The last 2 are interesting (and good) choices. A timely slap in the face for Ian Bell and Steve Harmison. will they get the message I wonder?

No KP! A bit of a surprise that. I would have thought it would have been better to have him inside the tent pissing out, rather than outside pissing in.

Yeah, it's a surprise. If he's gone from captain to not even being in the management group, that's pretty much an insult. It suggests that they don't value his input at all. I'm thinking that Strauss was instructed by someone higher up not to give Pietersen any responsibility on this tour *Cough* Hugh Morris *cough*.

What the fark is a management group and much as I big him up as a prospect what the fark has Stuart Broad done to justify having a say?

Well he would appear to be the only quick bowler with half a brain. Who else is there? Anderson?? FFS....

Re: England unveil the players "management group"
Strauss said he wanted the view of the younger players too it seems.
According to this interview
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/7840963.stm
Seems like Strauss is giving the players their own head with regards to coaching - they can have as little or as much as they like but he's making it their responsibility to think on their feet on and off the pitch.

P*ss poor.
"I've got an idea, lads. We'll give KP a right good slap in the chops and not even have him in our gang any more, he deserves it."
"I've got an even better idea, let's give him an even bigger slap in the chops and release this to the media, that'll show him."
"YEAH!"
P*ss poor.

He is in the ODI 'management group' though apparently.

Does this mean Collingwood gets to decide if he plays or not?
Re: England unveil the players "management group"
In this article it says that Harmison is a shoulder to cry on for a lot of the younger players which is useful.
Our whole team will be homesick as soon as they arrive.

Pfffft!
Even more bizarre!
Just proves the fact that his exclusion from the Test inner circle is nothing more than a disciplinary measure.
How pathetic.

as well as KP and Shermanator, the real surprise is that Monty did not get a guernsey...monty could lead the sub committees on fielding drills and on bowling straight...seems a bit anti subi to me

I suppose it's just to make things a little less awkward - might be a bit weird for Strauss to have the ex-skipper right under his nose, calling some shots. I doubt he's interested in "disciplining" Pietersen in the slightest.
Don't see the point in this "management" thing in any case. Just seems an obvious way to divide a squad between "them" and "us".
The last time we heard of it was on the humiliating Ashes 06/07 tour, where it emerged that fringe selections Geraint Jones and Ashley Giles just so happened to be part of the management, while their rivals, Chris Read and Monty Panesar, weren't.
Guess which pair got picked for the final XI...

...and of course Trashley after his sterling work on that triumphant tour has gone on to an even more powerful role in the ECB establishment

Re: England unveil the players "management group"
Agree completely with your last 3 paragraphs, Jay, but not sure about the first bit.
England sides have been almost without exception littered with ex-captains who I'm sure would still have been regarded as 'senior advisers' in the dressing room, ever since the Brearley era.
Athers is probably the last and only one to get a really clear run at it since then, when he took over from Gooch in '93.
I guess you're probably right about Strauss having virtually bugger all to do with it anyway to be honest. This has got another management horlicks written all over it if you ask me.
If there's any logic to what you're saying at all, then surely they'd give Strauss the whole tour without KP in his hair anyway, rather than just the Test leg.
More cock-eyed bullshit from 'Team England' I reckons.

Sidebottom.
How can you have Broad in the management committee when he isn't even guaranteed a place in the Test team?

'Management group' souds like 'captaincy by committee'. That's always a raging success in cricket.

Re: England unveil the players "management group"
A fairly embarrassing situation IMO.
5 members of a 15 man squad are the management committee. Two of those are borderline to actually get in the side at the moment. And the other one is barely out of nappies!!!
Another complete farce. Phil Neale should be the management committee with Strauss and the VC. That is it!!
Team England, what a bunch of c0ckmunchers!
