because WI is not in India or England
I'd be keen to hear an example of a wicket deliberately prepared by an English groundsman to be a road when the team is 1-up.

Aye - India at the Oval is the most immediate example..... 1-0 down, 1 to play... ROAD

As much as curators sh!t me to tears, I couldn't blame them for rolling in the road builders for the last Test. When was the last time the Windies won a Test series against anyone but minnows?

Aye, no one would blame them really. Would be the old Injun tactic in pre 90's 5 test series. Go 1 nil up on a dustbowl and then produce roads for the rest of the series....
Thanks for not assuming we're minnows Skully

The reason provided for the lack of any semblance of green on the square was that the Oval recently hosted a music festival where the stage was erected centre-field over the square. The festival ended, the audience went home, the bands moved on and, hang on a minute, they left the stage scaffolding/erection up and in place for something like 12 to 14 days thereafter! No one thought to dismantle it !skully wrote:As much as curators sh!t me to tears, I couldn't blame them for rolling in the road builders for the last Test. Unsurprisingly, the grass (or what there was left of it) under the stage area had long since died off, leaving an arid desert on the square. It seems Curator Proff has since struggled to remedy the problem with subsequent attemps at coaxing grass to grow on the square, but all in vain! The grass seeds have rebelled and refuse to take shoot for fear of being left in the dark yet again! Hence the "road" ...
Now either that's incompetence on a grand scale or else a bloody good yarn to support the WI need to bore the sh!t out of cricket lovers with a 1700 for 17 wicket marathon ...
Frankly, I'd rather see pink pigs doing victory rolls in the skies than put any store in what "honest" curators get upto in their spare time!

God, the Windies record in recent years makes for dire reading.JKLever wrote:Aye, no one would blame them really. Would be the old Injun tactic in pre 90's 5 test series. Go 1 nil up on a dustbowl and then produce roads for the rest of the series....

Lest we forget a little less recently also the Sri Lanka series, where England were 1 up with 1 to play, and out of nowhere Trent Bridge turned into a raging turner!
I mean, for f*ck's f*cking sake. Trent Bridge has a reputation for being a result wicket, but my God. My f*cking God. My f*cking, f*cking, f*cking God.

As Doctorspin tried to point out earlier, the WICB is incapable of preparing wickets to suit the wishes of their team.
As Gayle said in his post-match press conference, he had asked Prof Edwards for a fast and bouncy wicket for Edwards and Taylor to cause havoc, but we all know what was produced instead. Various captains have tried asking for wickets to suit our team or series situation, but it never happens.
Indeed when India came to the West Indies in 2006 it was 0-0 with 1 test to play and do you know what the Sabina Park groundsman produced? A raging turner where Harbhajan dismissed Daren Ganga with one that turned square early on day 2. This resulted in BCL sarcastically applauding the groundsman during his innings.

Surely the WICB can threaten a few groundsmen with their jobs?
