Re: West Indies v England, 5th Test, Port of Spain, Mar 6 - 10
Crocinfo...
Harmison's taking out some gloves...and, with it, probably news of the declaration to the batsmen
"Has Harmy chucked the gloves down the leg side at around 81 mph?" asks Mark

Pietersen's hundred more important than a quick stab at the top order before lunch? Seemingly. Will get that 230 lead up too.

If they declare at Lunch they don't lose 2 overs...

Bloke doing commentary on crocinfo has no idea
Twat, there were 5 mins till lunch... do the math.
Will Strauss declare with Pietersen on 99? Will he "do an Atherton" as it isn't known?
And there's still no declaration

240 off 66 overs at under 4rpo on a flat pancake.
Got to be worth a go hasn't it Windies? Who am I kidding?

No way we will chase that.
I'm actually quite nervous though as we haven't collapsed in the 4th innings for a long time.
Still if someone had said before the series we would have to survive 2 sessions in the last test to win back the Wisden Trophy I would have taken it.

I'm glad Ian Botham isn't captain, we'd lose every match because of his stupid declarations. England were right to bat till Lunch but even then Windies are much more likely to win.
7.50 looks good on the Windies, tbh. 67 Overs is it to chase 240? 3.58 runs per over on a pitch where England just blitzed 6+ an over without even trying. My point is that just by batting properly they could find themselves within reach of that without consciously going looking for it. We'll see...

Its the correct decision, not a total gimmie but tempting on this flat pitch.
Botham is a farkwit, he's called every pitch to 'break up' by the 4th or 5th day

It's absolutely the right declaration. We've given ourselves the best chance of winning the match and you can't ask for more. That we're more likely to lose it is irrelevant. What Strauss has also done with this little cushion of runs over a Botham declaration is give himself lee-way with his field setting.

Happily, I was right http://content.cricinfo.com/wiveng2009/content/current/story/394653.html
Monty got a 25% match fee fine, and Amjad one too - not the best start to a career, but that was a given from the extras I suppose.
Nothing for Broad.

Consensus in the Sky studio was delcaration is too late. They wanted to set something like 215 in 70 overs

Quite right, too. That demented seal clapping thing that Monty does is really annoying.

Well well well, this referal thingy gets more ridiculous.
Sarwan decision for LBW is referred, ball blatantly canoning into leg stump on the referral but there was apparently not conclusive evidence to overule.
However had that been given out then Sarwan would have referred and been given out after referral.
How can you have both decisions be correct and proven so by technology??
Plenty left in this game with only the three big guns I reckon in Englands way as Hinds has No idea here.

Hinds will score a brilliant not-out 81.
The lbw wasn't that easy a call, I'd like to see those given out to spinners personally seeing as they are out, but given the standard of Umpiring in this match you have to appreciate that plumb lbw means it hits the pad and then bowls the guy as well.

ooopsy.
Sarwan gone to Swann - very good catch by wobbles.
Still the Limpet and his white understudy, plus a belligerent Gayle.
Could finally get interesting.
