Hass wrote:Ian Chappell came back to give Allan Border some more advice after 1987.
He told AB that he'd been too chummy with the English players and needed to be more ruthless.
As a result Border completely snubbed David Gower on the 1989 tour (they'd been very good friends before that).
Gower himself commented that it seemed like Border was a different person.
I don't know if it had an impact or not, but Australia did win that series 4-0.
England's pie chuckers contributed a lot to that scoreline.

Harris picks Katich and Haddin in quick time, Aus in deep trouble.

I was hoping they wouldn't manage 200 but 209 is good!

Looks like the usual dead rubber performance then...

F you JK, you deadrubberist. If it weren't for dead rubbers England would have won nothing in the 90s, if not a pair of congratulatory cow's testicles that were being kept warm for the retarded baby's inheritance.

What a man is Brad Haddin. He produces the much-needed goods yet again.
A man for a crisis. If ever there was one.

Re: South Africa vs Australia, 3rd Test, Cape Town, 19-23 March
It will surprise no one to read that the main reason I see for our predicament after Day 1 is that we've gone in (albeit under forced circumstances) with 5 bowlers and one less batsmen.
Sure its nice to have both the legspin of McGain and the control of McDonald and not have to flog the frontline pacers too much BUT the cost is a batting line-up that is always vulnerable to a collapse like we saw today.
Might be ok for Eng but I'll pass for us in future.

Once again, Haddin and Johnson add some respectability to the score.

The series over, 10 days off and the WAGFs showing up . . . FFS can't the lads maintain the anger for 5 days longer?
Credit to the Saffies for doing the job, but geez the boys didn't look like they had their minds on the job . . .

Oddly, I thought it looked like the Saffies didn't have their mind on the job in the first 90 minutes, with some fairly ordinary bowling making what should have been a tough job for Phews and Fleas a whole lot easier.
Then Phews went to one that he:
a) shouldn't have played that shot to
b) shouldn't have missed it (Harris FFS)
c) should've referred (hit him outside off)
It all went to sh!t pretty quickly after that.

I was looking forward to Red's comments on the days play but it appears she has gone away for the weekend.

Has Ponting decided that the team isn't going to refer anything when batting? I have no information on this but it seemed a possibility after Hughes' total disinterest in appealing his LBW ...

Comprehensively SA's day. Poor batting by us and we had left our batting thin because of ill-conceived selection. Steyn looked more fired up than earlier in the series.
It is a dead rubber but as Punter said prior to the match we want the clean sweep and we want to maintain momentum. SA lost theirs in Sydney and haven't regained it in test cricket.

I wonder whether Hauritz will be used in the ODI series.

Well that was an all-Yarpies session. Just shows the folly of persisting with Squinty McKenzie. Prince looks impassable. And why all the sooking about opening. He looks solid as.
Could be a 300 deficit on the way. And here's us with just 5 batsmen. I farkin hate the Aus NSP.
