Re: Saffies really are funny
A bit harsh on AB Naeem. He's become more consistent and played some very important innings for his country. Prince has saved his team's bacon on quite a few occasions as well but also failed in important run chases such as at Edgbaston. Maybe AB should take the gloves if he's the next best option but I doubt he's a one hit wonder and his fielding is nothing short of astonishing. His catching has actually been just as responsible for several wickets as the bowler. And he's very cute!

Re: Saffies really are funny
There's a contrary view to Kallis's view of equilibrium.
Punter bemused by Prince bluster

SOUTH African team management is worried about Ashwell Prince's state of mind ahead of today's third Test, while Ricky Ponting claims that the troubled team's latest acting captain Jacques Kallis is not a good choice.
The locals are in disarray after losing the series two-nil and losing captain Graeme Smith to another broken hand.
Prince was brought into the team and asked to take over the role as acting captain after the second Test, but was so upset about being asked to open he was relieved of the position inside 24 hours.
He later clashed with teammates Paul Harris and A.B. de Villiers in a domestic match, apparently calling the latter a protected species and suggesting he had no right to Prince's No. 5 batting position.
Other observers noted that he hardly spoke with teammate Mark Boucher during their long partnership in the game.
Prince, who lost his place in the side when he broke a finger in Australia, is seething that he was overlooked for this tour, especially after he found out he had not been recalled during a phone call with a local journalist.
Prince was further upset when asked to open and captain in his first match back.
Hashim Amla was a makeshift opener in the last Test but is better at three, while de Villiers has opened before, but is comfortable in Prince's old position.
Mark Boucher acted as captain when Smith initially left the field during the match but for some reason was not given the job, and Neil McKenzie stood in when the team's leader did the same in Sydney but he has been dropped from this game.
In desperation, the selectors have turned to Jacques Kallis, but Ponting says he thinks that the all-rounder is not a great choice because of his work load.
"I don't think Kallis is the sort of guy that would be jumping up and down to do the captaincy knowing the sort of laid-back person he is on the field," he said.
"He's got enough on his plate anyway with being a top-four batter and an all rounder, he's someone who bowls 20 overs an innings for them.
"I think we saw something similar when England came to Australia in 2006-07 and Flintoff was captain.
"When you are an all-rounder you already have a lot to think about, so that won't make his job any easier."
Ponting was asked if he could understand how the captaincy could become such a poison chalice that it would be refused.
"I don't understand the whole set up here in South Africa well enough to make comment on that really," he said.
"You can understand the reason he was disgruntled in the first place I guess, being the vice captain and being left out of the side but when opportunities come around like that I think any Australian would grab that with both hands."
While Prince is angry at the selectors and resents the players who firstly kept him out of the side and secondly forced him to open in this match, Smith and Arthur are annoyed at the selectors, particularly Mike Procter, for dropping McKenzie and Morne Morkel.
The coach tried to play down the issues yesterday and denied there was anything extraordinary in him seeking out Prince before the game.

Prince should get ready for a sledge-athon. If he melted down against his own Saffie team mates then what's he gonna be like when the master sledgers get stuck into him.

Naeem wrote:I'd be pissed too if i were Prince. The youngsters get to choose whether they want to keep or not, where they want to bat, where they want to field. But because Arthur is looking for a reason to get rid of Prince once and for all, he gets to open the batting.
Sadly he's doomed to failure after saving SA's ass consistently for 3 consecutive seasons.
I'd much rather want Prince coming in at 5/6 to save a test match than the one hit wonder De villiers or the 'slow left arm nothings' of Harris.
Three brilliant 'reverse woofs' in one post. Is this a record?
