Re: Pura Cup 2007/2008 (I)
Injuries galore to the Queensland team. Bichel, Kasper, Hartley, Love, Watson, Rimmington & Kruger all unavailable for selection. It means Murray Bragg will make his debut as keeper. As I mentioned a few days ago, he is from the same town as me & will be the first FC cricketer born here. Ben Cutting also debuts, a pace bowler who played for Australia in the last Under 19 World Cup. We might have a couple of former Australian Under 19 internationals bowling in tandem - Cutting & Grant Sullivan.
Daniel Doran is still in the squad. Hope they make him 12th man. I intend spending the day there but storms could interrupt play in the afternoon. They have been around most afternoons lately.

MORE CHANGES FOR BULLS
11 October 2007
The XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls will field one of their most inexperienced line-ups in a decade for their Pura Cup season opener tomorrow following the withdrawal tonight of wicket-keeper Chris Hartley.
Hartley aggravated a wrist injury in last night's Ford Ranger Cup loss to Tasmania and was replaced tonight by Valley gloveman Murray Bragg who will make his first class debut against the Tigers at the Gabba tomorrow.
Hartley attempted to train with the team late this afternoon before he became the 11th Queensland player to be unavailable for selection for the match.
Matthew Hayden, Andrew Symonds, Mitchell Johnson and James Hopes are in India and the team's injury list now stands at Shane Watson (hamstring), Martin Love (knee), Michael Kasprowicz (calf), Andy Bichel (shoulder), Nick Kruger (hamstring), Chris Hartley (wrist) and Nathan Rimmington (hip).
Despite the unprecendented drain on the team's depth, there is some light at the end of the tunnel, with Love and Kruger expected to return in the next Cricket Australia 2nd XI match in a week, Bichel and Kasprowicz to be reassessed ahead of the Pura Cup and Ford Ranger Cup games in Sydney in 10 days and the Australian quartet due back from India at the same time.
Bragg, a Bulls rookie contracted player last season and regular 2nd XI 'keeper for the past two seasons, learned of his selection at training late today.
A former Queensland Youth and Colts 'keeper, Bragg, nicknamed "Budgie", flew to the Bulls aid when it became apparent Hartley would not be passed fit.
He will join rookie paceman Ben Cutting as a first class debutant tomorrow if the Souths quick is given his maiden cap.
XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls v Tasmania, Pura Cup, tomorrow through Monday, the Gabba:
Jimmy Maher (c), Murray Bragg, Ryan Broad, Ben Cutting, Daniel Doran, Greg Moller, Ashley Noffke, Aaron Nye, Clinton Perren, Chris Simpson, Grant Sullivan, Chris Swan (12th man to be named).
Daniel Doran is still in the squad. Hope they make him 12th man. I intend spending the day there but storms could interrupt play in the afternoon. They have been around most afternoons lately.

That is an unbelievable squad ... still, they're got the home ground advantage. Maher will probably score a double hundred.

Never let the Aussies have their way. Give them an inch and they'll take your house. They'll be asking you to sticky homoerotic Aussie Rules threads next. Then they'll stage a coup and make everyone drink cold beer, eat kangaroo steaks and talk about spivs and flipperty gipperty wallabums.

Shhh. They'd never have remembered that. They struggle with concepts like precedents and reading.

Qld has it's most inexperienced line up in at least 10 years and started favourites.
Tassie are without Hilfenhouse but losing the toss could turn to their advantage on the last day if they tough out Noffke in particular before lunch.

So the much touted Tozzie Shield defence has got off to a shakey start.

Aye. But if the Tozzies are languishing at the bottom of the table, I'm sure others will bump it with a suitable reminder of the current state of the Tozzie defence.G.Wood wrote:skully wrote:So the much touted Tozzie Shield defence has got off to a shakey start.
