Younis Khan: Pak will beat Aus 5-0 in ODIs in UAE!!!
It's a red letter day surely?
How times change...
Younis Khan predicts 5-0 whitewash for Australia in UAE series!
Pakistan captain Younus Khan has said that his team would beat Australia 5-0 in the forthcoming one day international series in the UAE.
Talking to reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium here, Khan, while replying to a question said: “No doubt be 5-0, but in favour of Pakistan.”
He admitted that Pakistan has not played much international cricket in recent times, and it could affect its performance in the series.
Khan, however, said his team was capable of handing out surprises.
“Remember how Pakistan defeated England in 2005, which came here after beating Australia in the Ashes series,” The Dawn quoted Khan, as saying.
When enquired about Shoaib Akhtar’s slack performance in the ongoing training camp, he said it was not the right platform to judge a player like his caliber.
“One should watch Akhtar in the match as that was the real platform to examine the performance of a player,” Khan added.
Replying to a question about suggesting Akhtar about his role in the team, Khan said: “Who am I to give him advice, he is not a child and knows very well what the team expects from him.”
“Shoaib is also duty bound to play for the country and the team and not for himself. I feel no difference between Shoaib Akhtar and upcoming Ahmad Shahzad as far as performance of a player is concerned,” he added.
Khan said he would have liked to perform against a full strength Australian team.
Australia has rested their three top players Ricky Ponting, M Hussey and Mitchell Johnson for the five match series.

"they are a rabble! "
...and Oz has left out their captain , their best strike bowler and their second best batsman and included a walking hamstring tear , a brain explosion waiting to happen and an over hyped probably over the hill pretty boy
Sounds like they are evenly matched

At least the places where the brain explosion can happen aren't quite so numerous in the UAE and it will allow the other to break down before the can be picked for the Ashes

sage posts...UAE is not noted for having a pub on every second corner so the brain explosion in waiting may struggle to obtain rocket fuel

Re: Younis Khan: Pak will beat Aus 5-0 in ODIs in UAE!!!
2 things:
1] Pak has not played decent competive cricket for a long time barring the half ejected Lanka series.
2] Aus may have lost the ODIs to SA, but they have been playing some tough cricket of late and may be hungry to prove a point or two.
That said the two sides look pretty even. Both have rag tag bits and pieces players, a couple of half decent JAMODI bowlers and bats and both teams struggling with overall form and confidence. Both have bowlers most likely to break down halfway across the series and both have some hot headed players most likely to hit form in some controversy or other. Must have been ages now, since Aus was not a favourite in a ODI series against Pak.
It will be an interesting series. The on field games will be dull in all likelyhood. But the off field games may prove entertaining if they do happen.....
I just feel YK has shot off his mouth a tad too early and hopefully it will not come back to haunt him after the series. His arrogant prediction reminds me of an old Hindi saying,"Chinti ke bhi par nikal aaye hai!" [The ant has grown wings to fly - More an allusion to someone having a delusion to fly]

Lots of hot air which there'll be plenty of in UAE anyway. With Akhter predicted to last no more than 4 overs before he takes a cannabis break feigning a sprained ankle, I can't see Pakistan doing better than 1-4 based on merit. Punter's absence won't stop the punting, which makes it difficult to predict the final result. Its a bookies paradise.

This series would be lot closer than that.I can't see Pakistan doing better than 1-4 based on merit.
A lot depends on Symonds (he is going, right?) in the absence of Ponting who'll be surely missed though his ODI form of late has been very poor, averaging 21 and 26 in last and this year.

Further on Ponting, what do Aus fans think about his ODI future?
Is he a certainty for WC'11? Considering that Aus selectors are hard task masters, that his numbers of late are not looking pretty plus Aus has not won any ODI series under him for quite sometime now.

What has been the Aussie win-loss ratio been since India toured Aus in both tests and ODIs? I think from a dominating 75% win record of Punter before then, it has nearly closed in to 50-55% since.....
Anyone got some stats here?

If they dock Punter now from the team, there won't be any batting stalwart or consistancy left. I think Punter's captaincy is taking a heavy toll on his batting. That both are going through a lean phase points to it. The amount of losses and pressure is disturbing his thinking and playing, preventing him from focussing on his batting entirely. Perhaps he should give up captaincy and work back on restoring himself a Australia's premier batsman.
Right now he is going through what I call the Azharuddin mode. When victories dry up as a captain, so do the runs.

If we're having problems against Botha, the Pakistani spinners will tear us apart.
