A gutless sook who averages over 100 per innings since 2005 with 18 centuries in 30 matches.
The 2009 Ashes are approaching. If there is a possibility that Ramprakash really has changed his spots and is now the best batsman in the world then it would be a very good idea to find out now.
You just can't compare county cricket (especially on the flatest track in the country) to Test cricket. Michael Bevan was special as an ODI player and scored shedloads of runs for NSW and Tassie, but he failed in tests with a lot fewer chances than Ramps.
Go on, give him a go. Would love for him to be in the pom team come 2009!
Test cricket is also sometimes played on flat tracks. Anyway, if county performance can't be used to indicate form then it may as well be scrapped and replaced with something else.
Ramprakash has a good record against Australia. If current form is maintained through to 2009 I think the Australians would prefer to bowl to Bell.

It'll be such a mistake to recall Ramprakash - he's in the same bracket as Hick (gifted, but something missing)

Doubt it, I think it's all media talk.

Pitches at the Oval seem to be less pacy than they were.

Yeah, but he has averaged 78.60 away from the Oval in his two cracking years... 131 at the Oval -> not that beasting a flat track is the most foreign the to Test cricket anyway. Usually on better wickets.

Still think it's a bad idea to recall him. The thing about his form over the last two years is that he's not stupid, he knows his own game (he should do at his age!) and worked out a method to cream County attacks - not too taxing against Div 2 bowling attacks (last year) I think you'll agree.
