Rob I wrote:The BNP web site has several such testimonials. Unfortunately, decorated soldiers are not always paragons and can be racist too.

Oh I'm not disputing that for a moment, Rob. They're as diverse as every other section of our society.

And even if they are not, the BNP are very clever at manipulation, packaging themselves as nonracist. You have to delve into their literature to see the racist presuppositions in the language they use.

Sadly, that's also true - and you don't have to delve too deeply either. The knuckledragging troops are being kept well hidden just now, and the sharp suits and reasonable speeches are what the public see.

The biggest pity is that you can't get a fog-paper between the three main parties on any policy of significance. There are many people who'd like to see - in general terms - tighter immigration controls, support and encouragement for the married family unit, stiffer sentences for criminals, a proper enforcement of current drugs laws, a discussion on the pros & cons of EU withdrawal - to name just a few. Neither Tory Labour or Lib-Dem will entertain them, but worse still, they call such people racist xenophobic little Englanders.
They act as though there's something immoral, unethical or illegal about holding right wing views. There isn't - but sadly the only real right wing party is the BNP. Who speaks for us moderate righties..... certainly none of the current lot.

Outstanding post Growler! aye-aye

Picking up on a couple of points you make: 30% of prisoners in London Prisons are foreign nationals. There are a lot of people coming here, breaking the law, being caught and serving sentences.

HM Prison Service is picking up the slack for the failures of the Immigration Service / Border Control.

Instead, IMO we should have tighter immigration controls, carrying out CRBs and skill-set checks on would-be immigrants. Then 1. we will let in people more likely to make a positive controbution to UK society and 2. there will be spaces in the Prisons and therefore scope for tougher sentencing.
