he could have played another 4-5 years, so he's cost himself maybe 3 more test caps.

Didnt he retire a couple of years ago only to come back when he couldnt find a job in the real world? Strange that he's decided to pack it in when his position in the Kiwi ODI side is as secure as it's ever been.
