Interesting read.
Justin Langer, the former Australian opener, scored eight hundreds in 19 dead Tests and averaged 67.25, compared to his career figure of 45.27.
Very interesting indeed.

Statistics are like bikinis ...What they reveal is interesting , what they hide is even more interesting...

Re: The dead-rubber dominators
So in 80+ tests apart from those 19 he averaged 41 instead of 45.
hardly an earth shattering stat, maybe if the dead rubber tests took up more than 15% of his career you could read a bit more into it.

Not to mention that in some of the dead rubbers, like the 2001 Ashes, he was under pressure to establish/keep his spot in the team.

And his 250 in Melbourne was in the context of going for the sweep.

{snigger}
"Australian middle-order batsman Dean Jones' Test average drops to below 40 if you exclude dead Tests. He averaged 87.54 and scored four centuries in eight of them while averaging 39.82 in live games. In fact, four of his top six Tests scores - 216 against West Indies, 184 versus England, 150 against India, and 122 against England - came in the final Tests after the series had been decided. "
