Of course. But I think it shows that the Lord's crowd were a bit rash in booing Hughes for standing his ground considering Bopara did exactly the same thing yesterday (and got rewarded for doing so).
Crime didn't pay Bopara very much. About 15cents.

Either way aussies can feel a bit hard done by this morning.
I'd say it's the gods of chance equalising for all those saw-offs Strauss got in Australia.
He got one shocker and a couple of marginal decisions against him in Australia but mainly he was shown up a bit by the bowling, played some poor shots and was luckily dropped when making the only half ton he got for the series. People harp on too much about the decisions there. He basically struggled on the tour.

Hughes was prepared to go, but Ricky 'spirit of the game' Ponting told him to stay there.

Looking at the replay again I think he got his fingers around the ball. Great catch.

WTF? He was dismissed 10 times...7 caught, 1 bowled, 2 Lbs...when did 'all those saw-offs' occur?Rob I wrote:vilkrang wrote:I think if you're English then it did carry and if you are an aussie then it didn't...

Given the Fred drop, and the Strauss "catch", what I would say is that the England slips are standing a yard too far back. Which is Prior's fault.

To be fair to Ponting, he's stuck to his pledge to "take the fielder's word" whenever the opposing captain has agreed to do likewise.
During the southern summer, Graeme Smith instructed the South Africans to "take the fielder's word" and the Australians did likewise.
England aren't doing that so all bets are off.

Yeah? Maybe I'm a bit blinkered because he's Middx.

Strauss's decision to carry on batting yesterday, and declare this morning looks pretty good. Tuffnel on TMS said Flintoff's first wicket was a no-ball.

Not happy about Gary Pratt not taking his rightful place as chief Ponting wind up merchant England substitute fielder.

You can see Strauss's right hand get around the ball just after the ball hit the ground, not out imo. But what can you expect with these two umpires? esp Doctrove who has been rubbish over the years, yet these clowns still umpire international matches.

Happens all so often in so many sports - a side playing at its best seems to get the rub of the green on close decisions, while a struggling team has no luck.
At full speed - real time - Fred's delivery was good, and so was Strauss' catch. Only in slow-mo is the no-ball obvious. The catch - really could go either way..... must say I'd feel hard done to as an Aussie.

He asked for a low catch he thought he took to be referred to be on the safe side. That seemed to get the Aussie public on side.

Well I guess there's just no better ones around (particularly if you take the English and Australian ones out of consideration). And the more replay angles/technological gadgets available to the TV producers, the crappier the umpires appear. If they'd had all those 20 years ago I'm sure Bird, Shepherd etc. would have been made to look like muppets on a fair number of occasions as well.Makaveli wrote:You can see Strauss's right hand get around the ball just after the ball hit the ground, not out imo. Aggerscricket Oh dear - if that had gone to the replay, would almost certainly have been given not out. Ricky will be rucking - with some justification

I know it's obvious to say this, but Ponting is the key.
While he's still there I still feel we're in with a chance of saving the game (with a little help from the weather gods). But I also have that uneasy feeling that he could get out at any moment, and that's not a good feeling to have.

I agree with Hass, if Ponting kicks on and scores big, then it might be too much for England.
Add to that some rear guard action (MJ playing for his place; so he'll look to score big and play cautiously), it might salvage a draw.
England must not let this tick along. They must aim to strike with every ball!

Ponting will win this game, double ton with some support from others.
Most retarded f*cking stupid declaration of all time, they'll be home in 5 sessions, we should have batted for at least half a session. F*cking useless captaincy decision in the biggest series of them all. Idiot.

Ofcourse umpires are going to make mistakes, i'm just shocked how consistently thes 'elite' umpires can make mistakes yet still umpire in test matches. I mean if you can't even do a basic thing like spot a no ball then you are pretty much useless.
