But yeah, next game he'd have a lazy waft outside off and go for 26.
I now feel old when talking to the youngsters (i.e. anyone under about 25) at the club about Gower. They can never really grasp what a sheer delight he was to watch when he was in form. They go through a whole load of current players by way of comparison, and just none of them match up to the utter pleasure of seeing him toy with the bowling. He just made it look ridiculously easy.

Have a horrible feeling MJ is about to be unleashed. I don't need nightmares, so will bid you all adieu and goodnight.

Take it easy. Just think of Lever's 150-8... may well happen. Don't think we'll score that fast though
Re: England v Australia, 3rd Test, Edgbaston, Jul 30 - Aug 3
I want one of these two to get out, so we can see how Bell gets on, especially under some pressure.
If these two get to 200-1 and Bell comes in, then there won't be AS much pressure than if he came in now and scored big.

I reckon I can cope with waiting until the next test to see how Bell copes under pressure. Or possibly even South Africa in the winter.

They say Bell has class, like Gower, but having watched both, to me Bell has a "pretty boy style" to him, whereas Gower on song was a thing of true beauty. Heck, even his pretty 35s were superior to a Bell 70, I'd wager.
On the mental side, to me, Gower never really gave the impression of weakness; just carelessness, languor. Bell, OTOH, is just weak.

Good work from Strauss and Bopara there.
Need to stay together for the rest of the day, and then England will be in a very strong position.
Ummm.......that was a statement of the utterly bleedin' obvious, wasn't it?

I see the Aussie media have already had a bit of a whinge about the lbws, without mention the plumb ones not given...

There's a lot of praise for the Pommy bowling in that article and one comment buried in the middle refers to two dubious decisions and you choose to call it a whinge...the fact you looked so hard points to the probability that you thought they were gunned ....a whinge would have been to claim that Fleas and Watto were gunned too ...

I was waiting for it. You see, as per my post way back up the list, England had three pretty stone dead lbw's not given. To then place a comment in the article noting the dubiousness of their dismissals when they ought to have been given out beforehand is simply one sided moaning, giving the impression that Australia were hard done by.

How could Johnson have been given out earlier?
Was he late getting to the crease?

If you factor in that TAYne was pretty plumb to swannage and Krabs was even moreso dead out to Jimmyah on the 1st day then it's an ultra-whinge.
Re: England v Australia, 3rd Test, Edgbaston, Jul 30 - Aug 3
Johnson couldn't be bothered to play at a straight ball. I don't have the slightest sympathy for someone who does that, even if Hawkeye suggests (and it is only suggests) it might have sneaked over the top.

Your Inner Whinging Pom just interpreted that as a whinge because you didn't want to see anything positive

Nice try, but there's little doubt. It's a whinge - "Dear readers: Two Australian batsmen weren't out. Please feel free to rage at the disgraceful cheating umpires" etc.

i must have missed the revised version of the Laws that mentions lack of sympathy as a method of dismissal

That's good, because I've missed the revised version of the laws that mentions how Hawkeye is anywhere near accurate. It looked straight, he left it, on your bike son.
