Cricket references in non-cricket (OK, mostly US) culture

OK, so where have you seen/heard references to cricket, that you didn't expect because of the context?

Two for starters:

• In many episodes of 'House' you can see a cricket ball, And I think there was at least one episode in series 5 where Hugh Laurie was even tossing it in the air.
  
• In the original TMNT movie the character Casey Jones pulls out a cricket bat to have a lash at Raphael, who then says "Nobody understands cricket. You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!" Casey then smacks Raph into a bin and says "Six Runs."
  

In Numb3rs they had an equation on a whiteboard that contained
BCL>SRT

Recently (sort of) The West Wing. Some mad bastard with a cricket bat.

The Cosby Show. Some of Cliff's Jamaican friends telling him baseball was for softcocks and producing a cricket ball to prove the point.

There's two refs to cricket in West Wing at least (may be more).

The one Braddles mentions was early in the second series, when Ainslie Hayes starts working in the Solicitor General (or whatever he's called in the US) office and the SG marches up and down the corridor brandishing a cricket bat and threatening GBH to whoever is responsible for some God-awful cock-up or other. As the Pres says, this guy 'has a brilliant legal mind. Otherwise, there is no good reason why we shouldn't have him certified and forcefully removed from the building'.

The other one was after the Qumar foreign minister was bumped off by the CIA in Bermuda. Danny was telling CJ how he got wind of the story - by the security overkill an English mate of his copped when he arrived in Bermuda to play cricket.

(Wasn't there also a Tina Turner clip where they're on a tour bus and the boys are playing cricket up and down the aisle?)

Forgot about the Bermuda thing Nerky. The bloke in question was a security guard at the airport where they popped the raghead and had gone back to get his cricket bat.

Don't know about the Tina Turner thing.

And there's always that rumour, proof of which I've been trying to track down for years, that Disney named Donald Duck after Bradman.

There was one full episode in the Cosby Show where a friend of Bill from the West Indies argues the case for Cricket over baseball. If my memory serves me correct they even play the game and break something or other in the house.

I completely missed the Diff Strokes reference, and somehow linked the 'mad bastard with the cricket bat' to BOB Willis.

1934 from memory. Though he was on story boards at Disney a couple of years before that. I think it got all out of hand with the Hollywood Cricket Club.

Sounds like BS to me. In 1934 the Seppos (and certainly none of the Hitler loving fascist ones) wouldn't have even heard of DGB.

First recorded reference to Donald Duck was in a 1931 Disney Mickey Mouse Annual. He made it on screen in 1934.

Apparently, though, Walt Disney was a cricket fan...

Aus toured Canada and the US in 1932. Walt was a member of the Hollywood cricket club. Makes sense he would have seen him play

It's oft been claimed that Disney named his duck 'Donald' after Bradman got a duck on the Aus tour of US & Canada. A story spoled by the abovementioned appearance of Donald in 1931, also by the fact that the duck Bradman got on that tour wasn't in any of the matches played in Hollywood, or indeed California (see about half-way down this list) but was instead in a match between the Australians and the West Indians of New York. Now while it's possible that Walt could have been there, it's highly unlikely.

Discrepancies eveywhere.

I don't think Walt was actually a member of the club and Donald didn't have a name during his early days. He was referred to by the name of his voiceovers.

Plus anytime after 1930 Bradman was news amongst ex-pats.

I don't think the story has any weight, but it is quirky.

In The Big Lebowski the Nihilists threaten Dude with a cricket bat.

There's an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Xander tries to make a baseball analogy to British librarian Giles and says he's "batting zero... in cricket."
