Top cricketing names
Was reading the sports pages of a British swimmer winning gold at the world champs - Gemma Spofforth
Spofforth - what a cracking cricketers name.
Are there any other surnames out there that make you think 'cricketer' even though they're nothing to do with the sport. I'm not talking of the obvious - like Bradman or Tendulkar.
For some reason I thought cricket straight away but wouldn't do the same with Richards for instance.
I suppose the name has to be not that common - Spofforth & Gooch are the ones who come to mind.

You misunderstand. The only Bosanquet I really heard of was the cricketer. Didn't remember Reg until you posted it here.
Obviously Spofforth is a swimmer in 2009, which is why I immediately thought of the cricketer.

You don't. But I didn't remember Reg so couldn't think of any other Bosanquets.

Re: Top cricketing names
Reggie was an Ace newsreader when the mood took him.
Generally (and genuinely) pissed when On Air live and always up for a laugh.
Recall an occasion when, starting to read an item of news from his sheet of paper (something he clearly thought un-newsworthy), he looked vacantly at the camera and muttered "Shocking .... this is utter rubbish" ... before tossing the piece of paper to the floor.
Legend.

Simon McCoy is quite good like that though. More than happy to lob in the odd put down, and then there was the time his co-presenter accused him of a sexist comment (teasingly) so he got up and left her to it. Class - and hilarious.
