The list that sank Warne
No, not the list of every woman he slept with, cheated on, or sent text messages to. Someone tried to compile one, but it underwent a gravitational collapse and is now a small neutron star.
The list of reasons with CricAus decided he wouldn't be captain of Australia.
Basically it comes down to what many of us have said. He's a genius with the ball, but a grub nonetheless.
Excerpt from link:
There had always been top-level misgivings about Warne's behaviour, writes Haigh, who has had unprecedented access to minute books and other official documents.
They came to a head in August 2000 when Warne was replaced as vice-captain to Steve Waugh, with Adam Gilchrist inheriting the job.
The minutes of the board meeting listed seven crisply-expressed reasons:
TAUGHT a lesson;
LEADERSHIP brings other responsibilities;
GIVEN opportunities and shown he can't (take them);
NOT this one issue (episode with nurse in London);
HISTORY of incidents;
CATALOGUE of reckless conduct; and
RESPONSIBILITY to maintain public confidence.
The minute added: "Door not closed". "The last line suggested Warne had not disqualified himself altogether," Haigh writes.
However, he never did get the Australian captaincy on a permanent basis.

Yet Ponting's ongoing petulant displays raise not even a peep.

Good point, perhaps his "one woman" man trait counts towards this !!JGK wrote:Yet Ponting's ongoing petulant displays raise not even a peep.

Also if a bowler and batsmen were kind of equal in the race invariably the batman will get the nod.

Which is ironic given that the Pont was as big a pants man as any of them before he got married (and still may be).

Aye, TGM's only 'crime' is that he's cheated on his wife. Repeatedly.JGK wrote:Yet Ponting's ongoing petulant displays raise not even a peep.
It's not like he was punched by a tranny in Sydney once.

Warne's "mom gave me the pill" could not have done him any good tpwards this cause.

Aye, but that came a few years after the meeting that Zat mentioned in the first post.

Re: The list that sank Warne
The 2nd one is the most pertinent.He could not be responsible in his private life.I read an article by Michael Clarke about how he and Warne talked for half the night during the 2005 ashes series.Warne was cut about his wife leaving him.I wondered at the time if Clarke ever felt like saying,give it a rest,I gotta get up and play cricket tomorrow.I came to the conclusion that Warne was basically selfish.There is one thing that ruled his life and it wasn't cricket or his family.

Warney covered the whole Animal (slept with the wrong ones), Vegetable (got into tobacco-related trouble, and there was the drug thing) and Mineral (took gold for information) spectrum, which seems to be a disqualifying factor...

Re: The list that sank Warne
He is still the greatest exponent of spin bowling in its purest form - EVER. No kinky arm and on any track.
Whilst his histrionics and over zealous appealing did often go beyond the pale, Warne deserved all the respect he got in the cricketing world.
As a Pom and despite all the sh!t he gave England, I have to say I feel priviledged to have seen him play.
Morality and emotions aside; like him or despise him... in cricketing terms there won't be another like him.
Genius is often flawed - something which the media thrive on ... and one question begs ... Why didn't CA provide him with a minder, knowing his capabilities on and off the field?

"Why didn't CA provide him with a minder, knowing his capabilities on and off the field?"
Because letting him be a loose cannon who shagged his way through life helped him be a matchwiiner on the field ....
The same as Newcastle and the NRL turned a blind eye to Joey Johns and his 'self medicating' and West Coast allowed Ben Cousins to develop a career ending 'substance use' habit....

Much as I hate it (agreeing with Merlo or bigging up an Aussie....your choice), I have to agree with this sentiment.Merlin wrote:

Danny thinks that Merlin was correct in all he said about the fat, ridiculous appealing, druggie, can-keep-his-d!ck-in-his-trousers-and-wants-sympathy-all-the-same, Aussie count.
Danny also thinks it's well freaky talking in the third person.

I were quoting the B@z man, but couldn't be arsed putting his gross insult into [quotes]

If Warnie was not so crazy off the field, would he have been such a legend?
