Which are pointless crowd behaviour? Multiple choices allowed.
Pointless crowd behaviour
There's an awful lot of it, to be honest.

Would fit under 'organised chanting/singing' but certainly deserves a mention.

All adds character IMO, though if I'm sat near someone in drag they are usually tossers.

Re: Pointless crowd behaviour
Drag is traditional though, back in the late 1800's women used to get in free on Saturday, blokes saw the opportunity for a freebie and dragged up. Can't mess with that one.
Re: Pointless crowd behaviour
Oh Barmy Army definitely- my idea of hell sitting next to a bunch of tragic middle-aged lard-arses singing about themselves all day.

They seemed to be singing "get your tits out for the lads" to Shane Watson today.
He looked a bit puzzled. Or injured.

Re: Pointless crowd behaviour
Did I hear the 'you all live in a convict colony' (to the tune of yellow submarine) being given an airing today?
Disgraceful...

I'm afraid so. And there was also a round of "Get your shit stars off our flag".

I guess it's no worse than the old 'rather be a poof than a pom' ditty - just proving we can be as big a bunch of wanqers as the Aussie crowds.

That's one with merit.

Is there ever a day of Ashes cricket (or even a session) when that one isn't heard?JKLever wrote:Did I hear the 'you all live in a convict colony' (to the tune of yellow submarine) being given an airing today?

It's f**king irritating and mind numbing when sitting in the vicinity of a bunch of pink skinned, pot bellied, skin headed t*ats all day, dressed up like monkeys or in drag, trying to squeal their way through banal crap ... "barmy army ... barmy arm .." repeat for 30 minutes a time ... whilst sploshing their beers around in a pissed daze.
At 75 quid a pop, If I wanted that sh!t ringing in my ears all day, I'd rather pay a third the price and go to a Milwall football match that only lasts one fifth the time.

Usually the grounds have a separate section for the Barmy Army lot. The Oval does, certainly.

Lord's just bans the buggers. And men in drag. And inflated kangaroo dolls.
And guess what, people still have a bloody good time.
Not being a stick in the mud, but it is f**king annoying when you get a bunch of these a*seholes beside you all day long ... like you're trapped and there's SFA you can do about it. I'm sure the yellow decked Aussie parties who've paid serious dosh to attend a day's play find it funny for about 10 minutes before realizing their doomed state.

Which is my point. The Oval has a section of the ground given over to the Barmy Army so you don't have to put up with being next to them all day if you don't want to be. I would suspect though that the Australian organised groups thoroughly enjoy it to be honest. What you don't want is some family group being stuck next to them.

Should be a law where we can only export that lot to Australia... they're far from what the original barmy army were, they've all got a bit up themselves concerning their own importance.

I actually felt sorry during one of the wickets when the big group of yellow was surrounded by baying brummies...

That silent yellow island in the howling sea of mentalness. It was quite a sight.

IIRC from 06/07, goes summat' like: -
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who was a thief
And he told me of his life
Stealing bread and shagging sheep
So they put him in the nick
And then a magistrate he went to see
He said 'put him on a ship - to the convict colony'
You all live in a convict colony, a convict colony, a convict colony
You all live in a convict colony, a convict colony, a convict colony
I don't have much of a problem with it to be honest. Didn't meet an Aussie who did either. Is it really that offensive?
Bit mindless when it's rolled out for the 8th time that day, but offensive?
