Podge possibly wouldn't be the worst selection but I'd probably blood someone for the future. Tough call but maybe it's time for Trev's boy Usman Khawaja.

Thank fark for Paris.
Good summary. Who would you have at six. Hodge?
Next person that suggests TAYPODGE as a Test Bastman
Usman didn't set the world on fire vs Eng but him, lil Huss, Fergie or Smith at 6.

So you Aussies want to pick a 36 year old who's retired from first class cricket as your test match number six?
Snigger.

Dear God we suck. Ponting needs to drop down the order. Clarke needs to be dropped until he is fully fit. North needs to be dropped full stop.
And at what point in particular did Australian batsmen forget how to score centuries. Our 40/100 conversion in the last 2 years has been pathetic.

Yeah, good point BA. I overlooked Dussey. Maybe he is worth a go after his brother.Blackadder wrote:Bradman wrote:skully wrote:4-72 - all England in that session. God North is an imposter. But belter of an innings by Paris, nonetheless. And level-headed effort by Haddit as well. Just shows what a good job Fleas and Watto did in the opening session. It was tough batting conditions.
And is the Anderson Cycle now at its zenith, FFS?

Good counter attack from Huss, and supported well by Haddin.
Aus now 40 behind England after looking like 200 may be a struggle for Aus.

You lot are only 40 runs behind with 5 wickets in hand. You declare doom far too early.

A wise Taswegian alleges that he spied said crock in the Qantas Club (I'm assuming in Sydney) and he couldn't stand such was the discomfort in his back. Seems like desperation on Drunky's/NSP's part given that only Paris and Pup had any sort of form on the board going into this Test. He looked very stiff while batting and was clearly hampered by the short ball.JGK wrote:Clarke needs to be dropped until he is fully fit.

Pommers should be the number 6
Sorry Ollie but your time is up
Whoever let Clarke play ...Clarke , Physio , Drunk , Selector , Weet Bix ...should be shot , sacked , electrocuted , water boarded , shot again and told to farque off from Oz cricket forever ...It was a giveaway he wasnt close to fit when he skulked around at mid off/on all day rather than in the slips or at point ...his batting just confirmed it

Sageness from the beanie. But are the upper class toffs of CA likely to give the wozzie wild child a go?

We have a bunch of over-paid wankers as batsmen; our bowlers are either the next coming of DKL or sh!t*, our captain is a dickhead and his deputy's no better, and the only decent player we've got is either over-worked or not used properly. Add to this a national selection panel who decided Lord Ted was a good role model and a governing body that thinks...... (well actually it doesn't think).

Aus just ahead at this stage. England can't afford to conceed anything more than a 50 run lead to be in with a chance. If we can set 250 for Aus to get in the 4th innings, we'll be in it.

Some interesting cracks now snaking down the wicket. And this in a wicket with a bit of moisture in it. What's it gonna be like by day 4 and 5?

We're farked. Get five quick wickets, bat for a day and let Swann run through us like prune juice at a kindergarten picnic.

we are gawnski...I do not understand why Clarke is playing - doubtless the story will be he was fit to play but unforch injured his back while walking out on the ground....just about everyone other than the NSP know 0th cannot play..
all in all a poor display by Australia but one that prolly truly reflects the ability of the team

Clarke declared himself fit so he's 100%; getting sick of excuses made for him when he fails. Poms have identified a few weaknesses in his armoury and successfully probed him. Suspect his average at #4 compared to #5 may not make pretty reading.
Aussies probably need one hundred lead given that we're batting last.

No way Clarke was fit. He couldn't duck the bouncer and as MB says he fielded at mid-on (possibly one of the lowest work rate positions) to protect his back.
But agreed that we need at least 100 lead to have any chance in this one.
Finn came back strongly after an ordinary 1st session and Jimmy and Broad both looked impressive.
But Paris has to take the honours for player of the day. great knock that was almost over first ball.
