Re: Way to play in the spirit of the game, Ricky!!
I want to spew every time I hear Punter bang on about the spirit of the game, but would we have done any different in his place?

Certainly not. But then you don't hear Strauss go on about spirit of the game, do you?

Re: Way to play in the spirit of the game, Ricky!!
I want to interview the actual Spirit of the game.
Smerk: Thanks for joining us today.
Spirit: Not a problem, my pleasure.
Smerk: What do you think about Ponting's rant on yourself?
Spirit: Well, he's some sort of Qunt to be badmouthing me, behind my back aswell.

However, this is just as I say scraping the bottom of the barrel!
Precisely where Ponting lies when it comes to the spirit of the game.
I'd say his hypocrisy merits that level, wouldn't you?
Habitual slow over rate offender - and bloody good at effecting it!
Watch how the Aussie bowlers languidly went about their business ... and as Trev points out, 90 overs BEFORE 6 PM is the required and accepted norm ... Aus bowled 85.4 by 6.30 ...
Bollocks IMO ... Go figure mate.

Strauss is probably a bit more astute than Ponting and realises the Spirit of the Game is not something to take so literally. It's something all players know, without thinking about.

So basically what you're saying is that Tasmanians in general and Ponting in particular are both crass and thick.
Okay - I'd go along with that.

Hilfenhaus seems to be breaking the stereotype with his intelligent bowling.

Well I for one hope Ponting is given a ban by the ICC. He should've taken one on the chin in the Indian series last year, and didn't. It seems the deadset dickhead still hasn't learned anything.

It was phawking ridiculous that he spent 1.54 minutes discussing the field with Siddle prior to the second over of the game. They had 2 frigging weeks to think about that. It's not like the two pommie openers were a surprise

They have advanced to marking the bowlers run ups prior to play so you would think working out where the cover is going to stand shouldn't be too difficult

Re: Way to play in the spirit of the game, Ricky!!
Why must they have a "clock" cut-off time on days 1-4 ? On the final day, if there's a chance of either side winning - as at Edgbaston - there's no question of that ...... the overs will be bowled no matter how long it takes.
Playing conditions should be amended to ensure that if there are no weather breaks, then 90 overs will be bowled, unless light intervenes.
If that happens after the scheduled close of play.... if the batsmen had a choice of going off, or nominating say, two bowlers who couldn't be used - I suspect most skippers would make a bit more effort to keep up with the rate.

Yes, all side do it these days, but Ponting has been pulled up the most times for it. Clearly being fined has no effect on him, so it's time he was banned for a test match.
Yes, and as I said in the match thread - if there wasn't a clock cut-off point - the light was still good.
Had the final wicket been No 10, we'd have had two overs to bowl at their openers, and getting one out would have been ironic justice IMNSHO.
The fact that most teams will slow the rate down to suit themselves doesn't make it right, and far better the team suffers on the pitch if possible rather than meaningless fines. 90 overs a day isn't tomuch to ask, and any less is short-changing the paying spectator whichever way you look at it.

I reckon they should be even more stricter and make it 30 overs per session. Takes out the vagaries of bad light.
If the players start losing their precious breaks they will quickly speed up the overs

strauss and his team are out and out cheats...whether it is delaying the game, claiming bump ball catches...sending fast bowlers off for breaks at the end of their spells...appealing for everything...using mints to produce the swing they have no natural ability to otherwise produce...some not happily the majority of the english crowds have been churlish in booing Ponting...in the last 5-0 tour the Oz crowds recognised the efforts of Frejesus who carried his team..
ponting is a tough fellow and I expect he rejoices in the boorish attitudes of some of the english team and some of their fans (ie the mudges of the world)...
like the english team many of the pomgolian fans are already achieving the gold medal in what they are normally world champs at - whingeing.
hilarious at the end of day presses to hear the spirit of english cricket (who should should have been given out for a duck) complaining about strauss being gunned...

phurt...pomgolians themselves caused dealys - eg playing for breaks...a number of times Oz bowlers had to stop their run in when they saw some stoopid pomgolian fan moving in the stands - did any of you people watch the game

I think it fitting that mudge and co should be so bitterly resentful of Ricky's hypocrisy. It is, afterall, only the hypocrite hiumself who finds hypocrisy so difficult to forgive . . .

Listen Horace, I admire every forummer in this place. Even the people who want rid of me. I love being here, no matter how festive that sounds. It's great and I will not argue.
It has nothing to do with my nationality, but I will be here all the time, even with who people don't like it. I don't mean to offend.
