Re: Your favorite West Indian fast bowler ever!
It's not like it was hard. I've had three smokes, had GAE bring in some martinis and bitch to me for half an hour about stopping her flying and gone out to watch qmyjr do some jumping. Something I specifically warned the guys he wasn't to do 'til he got older.
I've been away from this thing for quite a while at times.

I have never seen Andy, but Sunny rates him as the best he has come across. Apparently never said a word to the batsman and let the ball do all the talking.lardbucket wrote:Andy Roberts

David Gower said the same thing. He had two bouncers - a playable one that he showed you, and another, much quicker.

my all time favourite is Wes Hall...he may not be the best but was the first to bowl with a savage joy

How about Ian Bishop because of the aura of Walsh and Ambrose.
He was one of their recent pace bowlers yet his name is mostly ignored!
Tall, quick, and an A Flintoff like action
Very fine bowler.

For me it has to be Mikey Holding. So much grace and athleticism, and fearome, effortless pace.
Followed by Curtly. For sheer intimidation he was an awesome sight in his prime.
Then Courtney Walsh. The workhorse. Still massively underrated, imo. His record is up there with the best. A good man to boot.

Malcolm Marshall. Saw him in the MCC vs Rest of the World Test match, at Lord's in 1987. Awesome

It was a First Class match played over 5 days. Not a Test.

JGK wrote:Maco was undoubtedly the best of them (and a champion bloke too). I loved Ambrose as well (even though he regularly destroyed us).
But for me Joel Garner was the bowling icon of the great West Indian era. When he came in to bowl I used to think "how the fark could anyone actually survive batting against this guy". When the likes of Holding and Walsh came on after him it signalled some respite for the batsman!
He's by far the best JAMODI bowler ever as well.
That was pretty much how I saw Garner as well. Others might have been better bowlers, but no one seemed as scary and awe inspiring as Garner.
Those were the days......

Curtly Ambrose
A proven absolute destroyer.
And a great, stadium-illuminating character on the field, and in the team. (Even when sombre off it - once (or twice) bitten, twice (or more) shy of the media.)
I have to admit to a weakness for Wes Hall too, though not up there in stats or probably class either. A great guy, another gentle giant playing a killer('s) role.

Re: Your favorite West Indian fast bowler ever!
But what does "favourite" mean?
Mikey had the best action. Roberts was the most thinking, the most calculating, probably the best learner from the experience of previous deliveries. Marshall the most methodical, though not to my mind the most exciting. And so on.
They all deserve words of sometimes bittersweet praise.

Still miss him, Amby... the more I think about it the more I just took for granted I could watch spell after spell after spell of hostile pace and pinpoint accuracy. What a bowler. One of the finest.
Re: Your favorite West Indian fast bowler ever!
find this just about impossible to answer
I saw Wes Hall bowl...extraordinairy...not least because he often smiled at the point of release...loved watching him bat too

My favourite was Sobers. Back yard cricket, he was me, finger spin, wrist spin, swinging medium pacers. It was fun.

Re: Your favorite West Indian fast bowler ever!
For me it was 'whispering death' Mikey Holding. Silky smooth runup & delivery. Similar in many ways the the great DKL.

Everybody loves Garry. But the question was about a "fast bowler". GStAS could bowl faster than his languid, fluid movement suggested. But he wasn't really a quick. It was all those variations, all good, that made him the genius. That, and his loose-limbed, hawkeyed, on his day absolutely devastating batting.

But you didn't even select him. Tragic!
