Ditto re Black Swan - Portman is bloody convincing.
Anyone seen The King's Speech ?
That's a film I ain't too sure about.

Any Aussies know anything about Animal Kingdom? There seems to be a massive buzz about it.
I really liked Black Swan. Like True Grit, needs to be watched in a cinema really. The score is brilliant and it's quite creepy in parts. I wouldn't say it was pretentious at all Danny, unless films with ballet in are automatically pretentious.
And Mila Kunis nearly made me have a little accident in the cinema. It's difficult to believe that someone that gorgeous is Meg from Family Guy.

Re: Films you've watched recently.
Me, I've only just got around to The Aviator.
Too long, but was otherwise impressed. Leo seems to be Marty's wish-fulfilment younger version. Here as a proxy soldier taking on the might of the political machines with, errr, Leonardo-type madcap schemes. The millions help.
In spite of that, he takes the part very well, I think.
Typical of Scorsese too, he mixes high tension with sly humour in a way I like. It never "sets in a mould". Parts of the film are deliberately mannered, for effect(s). Who said naturalism is all that counts? It's not a soap.
Excellent cinematography too.

I watched Apocalypto on BB2 last night. I know Mel Gibson is a Jew hating, wife beating maniac but that was a properly good film. I really enjoyed it.

I watched Ripley's Game recently. Much underrated film. Malkovich at his best.

Uhhh, I watched Cemetary Junction, sort of harmless whimsical film. It's OK.
Re: Films you've watched recently.
Johnny English Reborn, I shall be watching.
Pity Atkinson continued with his Mr Bean style characters rather than Blackadders sarcastic wit.

I find myself tired of most 'character' actors such as Malkovich, Walken etc al.
While good to watch the first few times, they just seem to play the same person after a while - some exaggerated version of themselves.

Yeah, I got to see it, I really quite liked it a bit as well. Stereotypical Coen Brothers film in many regards. Which is OK... I dunno, yeah, it's just after A Serious Man I just wondered to myself why every ending has to be so abstract and somewhat ambiguous though. But, back on point, thought it was a really nice and warm, gentle film.
Re: Films you've watched recently.
I think they were pretty faithful to the book, so the film's ending is the book's ending. Did you nearly cry at the horse (don't want to spoil it). Probs just me being a wuss. And how good was Matt Damon?! He's somehow turned into the best actor of his generation,
Where would you put it in your Coen rankings?

Re: Films you've watched recently.
Yeah True Grit was a delight- Bridges, Damon and the girl were characters who you could just wallow in their company. Must have seen most of the Coen brothers films and while they tend to be all admirable, True Grit was the first one that's really clicked with me.
Saw Source Code the other day- clever, high concept film and well acted. All felt a bit slight though and the ending was a dissappointment, Not quite worthy of the hype but worth watching nonetheless.
Oh and little shout out for Sidney Lumet's 1975 film Network which I saw again on the weekend. "Your are messing with the primal forces of nature!"

Saw the 1970 original version of And Soon the Darkness with Pamela Franklin and Michele Dotrice written by Brian Clemems and Terry Nation who wrote the original Avengers TV series and the 2010 Hollywood remake with Amber Heard and Odette Yustman back-to-back on DVD recently.
Both well worth a shout especially if you like girls in shorts cycling.

I watched Monsters recently. Made on a shoestring budget but came across as a very polished movie.

No, the horse thing didn't do much for me. Seven-odd years at that last shitheap place has made me cold towards the equines. Thought all the cast were really good, that little girl, Damon and Bridges were just top banana really. I rate it pretty highly on the Coen Bros. list. I haven't really got a ranking, though.

Brazil.
Everyone raves about it.
Not me. Couldn't get into it at all.

Should be going on Wednesday. Can't wait!
No, but I've heard it's actually more of a tenseness than an out and out sh!t-scaredness.

I didn't mean to go with me, but in general.
I've seen the clips, looks pretty good.
Guy Ritchie could cure cancer and I'd still think he's a f*cking c**t that I wouldn't piss on if he was on fire, or watch his films.
I would actually piss on him though. Just to see what it feels like.

I've pissed on people. It's just like having a piss.
As for Richie whatever girlfriend... I love Sherlock Holmes. Not as much as Poirot, but still.....

I get tremors of excitement when I think of pissing on Guy now.
Poirot is a jumped up Inspector Gadget. Without the gadgets.

It's a bit 'meh'... I did think it was wicked at the time, but on reflection it's just piss out of c*ck onto body..spangler wrote:

F*ck you!! F*CK YOU!!!! He's the antithesis of Inspector Gadget, you THUNDERQUNT! I'm reporting you, then putting you on ignore and then when you post I'll go "What's that? Did spangler say something? Bet it was gay".
spangler wrote:F*ck me?? F*ck you like a wigwam.
Poirot's all about the dull methodical, piece-meal approach to mystery solving bored me to tears.
Gadget was a maverick, he had to deal with a mastermind and deal with being played by Matther Broderick. I'd like to see you being played by Matthew Broderick. You'd cry yourself to death.
Outstanding.

What, Gilliam? Really quite enjoyed it. Took it with 12 pinches of salt, but it's a good concept.
Re: Films you've watched recently.
Remember the time Dello made love to Gilliam at a Q and A session (or something)?
I thought the whirlwind last 1/2 hour of Brazil was surreal magic. Dashing, terrifying, funny, interesting.

Super 8 is a cracking bit of fun. It runs out of steam a bit towards the end, but the first hour is excellent.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it, I love anachronistic type stuff - I'm all 'steampunk, woooo'. It was really surreal all the way through and that last half hour was really freakish. Jonathan Pryce was excellent - I've always found something likeable in him.
Dello F'd Gilliam? Was it a rape situation, or consensual? I've always thought of Dello as a fiend.
