Re: South Africa v Sri Lanka, ICCCT, Centurion, 22 Sept
Who came up with the schedule for this tournament? By any logic the next game in this group would be England v NZ... instead it's SA v NZ. The hosts could be out before England have even played a match!

Rain may run out the winner in this one.

Good fightback by SAf to get within 56 runs.
They looked out of it from 6 down with 115 or so still to get.

They still choked.
In reality, but for the rain, they needed 113 off 13 overs with only 3 wickets in hand.
Losing by 55 off D/L made it look a tad more respectable than it really was!

Shucking fite judging by the snippets I saw of it whilst getting tea tonight.
And that was for the host nation. Fark knows what tumbleweed we're going to see rolling by in widescreen for the other matches.
Kiwis v Sri Lanka anyone? No thought not. Not so much a case of picking your seat, nor even your row. Pick your stand, sir.

The ground looked about 70% full. Not great considering it's the host nation playing and it's meant to be a major international tournament. It looks like the South African public are making it clear which form of the game they prefer, based on the crowds last night compared to the crowds for the world T20 there a couple of years ago.

Someone said it was a mini world cup, so the Yarps would have a mini choke. Does that mean losing their first two games and being out in straight sets?

Their problems started at the toss where Gayeme got it wrong as usual. He tends to either lose the toss which proved crucial against us at times, or win it and invariably make the wrong decision.
Mendis completely confounded their batsmen, while Dilshan and co. exploited their profligate attack.
They might struggle if the pitches continue to favour spin given that they, unlike SL et al don't have anyone who can turn the ball.
And arrogant arsehole Steyn got his comeuppance. No other team able to challenge SA indeed!!

How can - in a 50-50 random situation, anyone actually tend to do anything?Red wrote:Their problems started at the toss where Gayeme got it wrong as usual. He tends to either lose the toss (snipped for brevity)

In an analysis of a series against Australia he tended to lose the toss six times out of six.
Semantics aside, the toss isn't a happy situation for him. He often loses crucial ones then makes bad decisions when he wins. That was the implication behind the remark.
Because SA lost so badly its net run rate is poor and winning the final two games may not be enough. It may have to trounce one of its opponents. The kiwis thrashed India in a warm-up game so they may be no pushover. They might have to look to the game against the poms to try to get their RR up.

Nice to see ICCCT getting a good start though crowds were sparse at best especially considering it was the series opener and home team were playing.
I still think Samarweera isn't good enough to be an ODI player. Because of him alone SL must have lost on 20-30 extra runs.
And what an innings Mahela played. Paced his innings so well. Dilshan as expected was the star of the day.
PS: I'm still at loss of words why Smith chose to field first!!!

You went missing after making a memorably stupid post about 'how annoying it is when people call the pitch "the wicket"' at the start of the deciding Test.Red wrote:And btw, I was around for the Ashes and SA hasn't played for months.
But it was predictable that you would be back this week.

I don't give a flying rat's clacka what teh implication behind the remark was. It was just bullshit. Things tend to happen due to cause and effect. If I was to take a baseball bat and smack you repeatedly around the head with it, you'd tend to experience pain, have some broken bones, bleed profusely, become unconcious, and eventually die. If you played in the traffic on a freeway, you'd tend to get severely injured or killed. If a coin is tossed eight times in a row, it's still a 50-50 shot as to whether it will be heads or tails on the next toss, the results of the previous eight tosses make no difference, therefore the toss can't tend toward anything.Red wrote:Zat wrote:How can - in a 50-50 random situation, anyone actually tend to do anything?Red wrote:Their problems started at the toss where Gayeme got it wrong as usual. Maybe even unconscious. And I think it's obvious that every toss is random but you can say someone tends to lose it a lot.

All the boxes for batting first appeared to be ticked.
The pitch looked super flat.
It was almost devoid of grass.
The sun was bearing down on it and the forecast high was nearing 30.
The Lankans had shown recent good form with the bat.
The Saffas hadn't bowled for five and a half months in an ODI.
The team batting first had won the last five or so matches at this venue.
Teams batting under lights in SA tend to find it harder.
The pitch was said to be destined to get slower.
SL with its two accomplished spinners defends well, especially when pitches slow up and it becomes harder to make the pace as a batsman.
Never mind, he decided to bowl.
Kumar Sangakkara was delighted he wanted to bat and read the pitch as a bat first one.

And you pick me up on semantic matters. Maybe everyone has to think or check before they hit the send button. Perhaps not a typo in any case; it's one of the most commonly misspelt words in the English language.

I said it was a typo, I make quite a few of them. Accuse me of poor typing, sure, but calling me a liar without proof just goes to show what an uppitly moll you are. At least it's not a defect in analysis or thinking, which you make in this place on a regular basis.
There's nothing wrong with being stupid, but there's no reason to be so proud of it.
Now humour me, do you remember to breathe when you take the headphones off?
