WICB retainer contract players named...
Or rather leaked to caribbeancricket.com . WICB in rewarding all the scabs shocker. These are the categories of contract:
A-rated players -- US$120,000 per year (apparently only 4 qualify for this. Gayle, Shiv, Sarwan and Bravo).
B-rated players -- US$80,000 per year
C-rated players -- US$60,000 per year
D-rated players -- US$24,000 per year (these are developmental players)
Contracted players by nation:
BARBADOS
Floyd Reifer - Seriously? a US $60,000 retirement payment as thanks for scabbing?
Fidel Edwards
Sulieman Benn
Kemar Roach
Ryan Austin
Tino Best - WTF????????????
Kraigg Brathwaite
Kevin McLean
Omar Phillips
Dale Richards
Dwayne Smith - good to see him back
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
Dwayne Bravo
Darren Bravo
Denesh Ramdin
Ravi Rampaul
Adrian Barath
Lendl Simmons
GUYANA
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Narsingh Deonarine
Travis Dowlin
JAMAICA
Chris Gayle
Jerome Taylor
Dave Bernard
Brendan Nash
Andre Creary
Nikita Miller
Chadwick Walton
WINDWARD ISLANDS
Darren Sammy
Andre Fletcher
Nelon Pascal
Devon Smith - Surely it's time to give up on him?
LEEWARD ISLANDS
Lionel Baker - WHY????
Kieran Powell
Gavin Tonge
There are some pretty glaring omissions in that list. Runako Morton who was in favour just a few months ago and scored runs against India and Andrew Richardson who toured England. Kieron Pollard who is surely worth a developmental contract at the very least. Young Devon Thomas looked far better than Walton against Bangladesh and yet he cant get any sort of contract....

So the two best performing islands in the last 5 years have 13 players between them that are contracted, but the insanely ordinary Barbados team gets 11?
Crazy stuff.

Well NSW are trying to sign him up for the big bash so that will be a start for the young man.

I bet Henriques is behind that move. It is the best way to ensure he doesn't have to bowl to him again.

It's a big wrap for the guy considering he doesn't have much of a profile here. Most other states are going for overseas players that will bring a bit of publicity with them.

He has a gift that basically nobody else has. He can literally chip or bunt huge sixes, so I guess the NSW management team have spotted something they can work with for success on the field rather than just for commercial reasons.
Now we all know the Australian system is 10 times better than ours at nurturing freakish talents like that and making them perform consistently, so I really hope he signs up for them and learns a lot.

Apparently Reifer is a development player at age 37? That Barbados list is way too long. It should be edwards, Smith, Roach, Brathwaite, Benn and maybe Austin. The punishing of players for not scabbing is uncalled for. Where is Mohammed, Jagguernath, Pollard, chattergoon, Morton.
I understand everyone can't get contracts but it's a joke when a batsmen who can't average 10 in test cricket even though he played against Bangladesh gets a contract.

I guess we will just have to put up with the WICB rewarding the scabs kkf. It's their own fault that they had to play those sort of players in the first place IMO so the fact that they have to waste more money on these duds is karma.
I just hope this doesn't mean we will be seeing the likes of Reifer and Best playing for West Indies A anytime soon.

Considering we now have a plethora of talented young leg spinners around the islands it is a travesty that none of them have been given a developmental contract.
Gavin Wallace would have been the obvious one but they could easily have given it to Davendra Bishoo, Anthony Martin or Odean Brown.

Re: WICB retainer contract players named...
Don't they realise a decent leggy can change the course of a game. It also gives them an extra option in the squad/bowling line up and it adds that vital element of depth when deciding on two spinners for tours of the sub-continent.
I bet they've got a fair few good prospects, but they just don't know what to do with. Shame.

They might have given it to one of them if they were not so busy rewarding the scabs.
They don't honestly think that Floyd Reifer and Tino Best are of more value to West Indies cricket than a talented young leggie.

Reifer and Best were not even after thoughts for the WI before the strike. It's disgraceful giving them contracts

Do the WI have more contracted players than any other test nation?

Just on the Windies and their dispute, Lara thinks it means their players will take quite a bit of time to get their act together again and expects Australia to drub them this summer.

Lara was interviewed on radio and said the biggest issue between the two warring parties is the lack of trust.
He's confident that T20 can propel cricket back to #1 in the interest stakes in the Windies. He named Wasim Akram as the most deceptive and best bowler he ever faced and Brett Lee as having bowling him the quickest spell during which Sarwan refused to rotate the strike to face him. He rates his double hundred in Jamaica against the Aussies as his best ever test innings even if the critics rate the 150 odd in Barbados a week later as his greatest.

BCL is entitled to his opinion. I think we will lose but there is no way it will be a 'hiding' because Australia simply aren't that good anymore and we have enough talent at our disposal to cause them more than a few problems (we bowled them out for 160odd at Sabina Park with Darren Powell as the chief destroyer ffs).

Has anyone noticed that Red only has opinions on SA players and that every other post contains opinions from former/current players she heard/read.

Does this mean Red has no opinion on anything whatsoever?

I was thinking that. There is supposed to be regionally contracted players under that as well. Where is all this money coming from. but if there is money for it I am glad they are contracting a lot of players.
