Class act. I remember his heroics for India on many occasions.


His 76 against Australia in the first test at Mumbai in 2001, was something magical, especially when those pesky Australian's were on fire and India had collapsed in a heap.

2 more days until a perfect 20 years. 15th November 1989 - 15/11/2009.

I know its still 2 days. But I won't be around here then. So I wanted to have my say early.

I wasn't being pedantic, just adding to the hype!

True. That made that stroke all the more sweeter.

BTW, same was true for Shoaib as well. He too talked a lot of crap before THAT game.

awesome read! amazing to think he has kept his head despite all that attention from the age of 13-14

our current 20-somethings cant seem to handle a year's worth of a fraction of that attention. hats off to sachin's family for keeping him so strongly grounded

Instant success and money goes to the heads of the youngsters.

It's such a pity that he had to spend so much of his career in the shadow of Brian Lara.

Good example of that is Kambli who some people say was even more talented than Tendulkar ever was. But look where he is now. Cooling his heels in worthless 'reality' shows.

This shows the value of one's upbringing. I think Tendulkar's elder brother Ajit is one unsung hero. He was the one who looked after him in his initial years, don't know his role now though. But really, he played very defining role in Tendulkar's professional life.

kambli was certainly not as talented as tendulkar, but was talented enough to be a test cricketer for india for 10 years at least. sadly his upbringing was quite different and the early success went to his head

You being a Mumbaikar must have visited his society (Sahitya Sahawas) or even that locality. How is that place? I mean is that a nursery for budding cricketers?

I also read somewhere that Tendulkar still plays cricket with his old buddies and little kids in the society.

I say no.

i have been to the building where sachin currently stays (la mer, same as aishwarya rai) but not his old house. he moved out of sahitya sahawas quite a few years ago. he might play cricket there when he visits his family i guess

of course i have been to shivaji park many many times. used to go for cricket coaching for a year or two as well when i was in high school. met achrekar's daughter, who now does the coaching since ramakant is quite old. still has dozens of matches going on simultaneously. just like azad, cross and oval maidans
