the #1 test team in ICC rankings

ICC will be confirming this new ranking over the weekend.

If SA doesn't beat England then India would be the #1 test team till next year.

Hmmm, no doubts I said this a few months back but it's a pretty hollow position - number 1 at the moment. Both the previous two holders of the spot had massive chinks in their armour and the same goes for India.

Congrats to India though, quality achievement to not lose a Test for so long.

If Ind wins next test and SA too wins 2-0 against Eng, both would've 124 ratings points. But SA would be no.1 on the basis of being ahead on decimal points.

Even if we lose the next test and SA recaptures the position, I am happy that we have finally climbed to the top spot of test rankings. And a 100th test win is nice too. Double treat.....

#1 is a mantle that should be enjoyed even if it is only for one match. The victory was a proper routing too.

Congratulations to India, as has been said, not losing a test in 18 months is pretty darn impressive. When do they next tour SA and AUS? If they win those two series then there will be no doubt that they are the number 1 team. Still battling with SA for the undisputed title at the moment though I think.

Adds a bit of spice to the England SA series though.

Still need to beat Australia and SA at home before I'll really believe it though. And, before we get carried away, we do not have the fast bowlers for it.

Actually, we do have good fast bowlers and that is why we are winning.

Do not underestimate contributions from Munaf Patel and Sreesanth.

Zaheer and Ishant can ride a tide but do not have the qualities of Munaf and Sreesanth to create opportunities where none exist.

I have always seen cricket fans without a cricket background criticize or make fun of munaf.

but all the cricket-based experts like Jadeja, Srinath, Chetan Chauhan, Shastri and so on always commend contributions from munaf.

Look munaf is more than he seems to be. Opposition will always know that here is a bowler who can crank it up a few notches whenever he feels is always going to be a threat.

ofcourse wicket should not be the typical phata BCCi rubbish, but more balanced.

Also munaf is a big morale booster for younger brigade, I am sure they look upto a 'cool' and unambitious fellow like him to steady their nerves.

In this world and esp in competitive sports it is important to have an unambitious, casual sporty and one-who-plays-just-for-the-heck-of-it kinda personality hanging out in the dressing room. It acts as a tremendous balancer of energies and gives a balance between the yin of ambition and the yang of sporting performance.

india actually have a decent pace attack when the conditions are somewhat neutral. zaheer and RP were awesome in our series win in england, sreesanth was a monster in SA, RP and ishant did the biz in australia. we actually have a pretty balanced side imo. ive still to see a source saying india is #1 but if true its a massive achievement. absolutely inconceivable in the 90s. credit to Sir Saurav Chandidas Ganguly
