No arguing with the numbers there Zimmy, it's not a bad start to his career - wonder if he'll win another 50 caps.
Andy after 66 Tests
3285 runs @ 32.21
196 wickets @ 31.90
He did well to improve his batting avg by 12, while taking 10 off his bowling average, retiring as a competent all rounder. Do you think Watto will improve his figures - or even maintain them, assuming he continues to be selected for the next 5 years or so?
Chalk and cheese.
No truer words ever written. As a sportsman, Freddie is universally respected. The pictures of him consoling Lee are some of the most memorable of the last decade.
Watson, on the other hand, is a complete and utter dick-wad. His antics on dismissing Gayle the other week were as embarrassing as anything I've ever seen on a sports field ....... even Aus fans were ashamed at it.
Indeed Growler, indeed.

Tayne Pocson has a long way to go before I would even compare him to the fat lipped freak.

Re: Watto v Fredo
No one denies that Watto's stats are starting to compare favourably with other all-rounders. But the point is, he has been around forever, sure he has had injuries, but mentally he has had time to mature over many years.
The stats being thrown up for the likes of Fred and Bravo and Vettori etc are for when they are two years into their career such is the amount of test cricket played these days. Hardly a chance for them to mature mentally or gegt physically fit for test cricket.
BTW, I agree Watto is 3rd picked in the team these days. He has impressed me no end since the 5th Ashes test.

Still he is primarily going to be a batsman who bowls a bit (else he will break) - so if he can chip in with a couple here and there I will be more than happy
aye.

I am more than happy if Watto makes 400 at 50 and takes 12 wickets at 30 as the 5th bowler in a series.

We have England next summer but the rest will take a while to get to. NZ is Watto's next target, then the Paksters (again) in England.

Ah yes...yet another example of how behaviour by your own team is condoned yet the same behaviour by the opposition is condemned.Growler wrote:No truer words ever written. His bowling wasn't outstanding but he had a fair knock with the bat, here and there. Had a tidy series, if nothing spectacular. One of the few Aussies to come away from the series with any respect left at all.
He should murder us down under. (With bat and ball)

I think he's come a long way, Smerkle. I have confidence that he will be a more than useful top-order bat and a very handy 5th bowler. Prolly won't get the spectacular 5-70s that Fred might crucifix up, but if he's making 50+ at the top of the order and chipping in with a 2-fer here and a 3-fer there, he's gonna be damn useful.

Watto will end up with a better bowling and batting record than the FLF...

Re: Watto v Fredo
FWIW - I always rated Watson after seeing him in his first test here last year and was surprised then at Skull's dislike of him..
Composed and solid in defence whilst not fazed by wickets tumbling at the other end!
His bowling wasn't all that hot, but that might come with time.
Will he aspire to Fred's heights?
Possibly ...

I've never really rated Watson, but it's hard to ignore when a player is improving.
I might live in sweet ignorance for a while.
At present, he's sh!t

3. He got the third when he ripped through your boys at Lords.
It's a strange one too that he got so few.
