Pommie just called Belf a "pretty" player after he caressed a cover drive to the boundary (presumably he's referring to Bell's gay hair pic that goes with his onscreen profile) and then said "we" have to go all out to win this Test - isn't he a Zimmer?
Nope. We have the Sky lot, which means a succession of Englishman and a token oppo commentator. I don't mind the Sky lot individually, but you don't exactly get a balanced or neutral view, and a lot of it is about how wonderful Sky are.
Shaun Pollock isn't the worst commy.

Sure. But that's what I mean about it being a token oppo commentator. There's always only the one.

Ah ... that would explain Pietersen's shallow grin and bemused look as he glanced up at the TV when Gower was criticising his hole out to midwicket!taipan wrote:Shoeshine wrote:skully wrote:So does the coverage of this match in England feature Kepler Wessels and Pommie Mbangwa?

Yes, but we know how dreadful they are. And they do have Mark Nicholas. Those two clauses might just be related.

Only just got up, missed the no ball thing. What exactly happened? Was it borderline and given in favour of the bowler or did Harper not even look at it?
He needs to be sacked after this game, I genuinely think I could do a better job than him. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be Bucky he's that retarded.

Extremely borderline. He took about one look at it, decided it was fine and then gave it out. No problem with the rest of it after that, but the odd comment about it maybe, just possibly, might, could be the tiniest smidgen behind the line says it all really.

Re: South Africa v England, 4th Test, Jo’burg, Jan 14-18
Harper is a worthless excuse of an umpire.
At first, he decided not to use Hawkeye to check the initial trajectory of the ball. Case and point, by doing so, he completely ignored the no-ball happening right in front of him.
What makes it even worse, is that in the rules, the bowlers foot has to be behind the popping crease when the ball is released, not where the foot slides. The majority of Morkel's foot was in front of the popping crease, and few cm was in the air. It was a very tough call, but one would think it should have gone the way of the batsmen.
It was plumb LBW though.

"Morkel to Cook, OUT, a review coming up, as Cook is given out lbw ... it could be marginal ... He took a while to ponder the option, but it seemed to the naked eye to be quite high, and potentially outside leg... this is absolutely crucial ... and there are so many permutations. No inside-edge, but surely that was a no-ball! Perhaps there is a fraction of leather behind the line ... either way, it's been given!
AN Cook lbw b Morkel 21 (31b 2x4 0x6) SR: 67.74 "

Colly smacked the last ball of the session for six. He's playing a different game to everyone else.

There was an article in The Age today which suggested that the ICC is thinking of doing away with neutral umpires because of the review system. It was stated that English and Aussie umpires could stand in the Ashes for instance if they were considered to be among the best available.
Harper stuffed up a few times as a tv ump in the Windies IIRC. But you get the odd dismissal off a no ball, Sooky was out to one last test. And Morkel's was borderline but Cook was palpably LBW so why not give the bowler the benefit of the doubt? It was hardly a howler.

Why give it to the bowler?
