Most disappointing test series for you.
This current series has been the most disappointing for me since the capitulation at Sharjah against the same team in 2002.
Other disappointing series include the home defeat to SL in 1995(i was there at the ground during the Faisalabad match)

Re: Most disappointing test series for you.
PP: hello.
Was only p****-off because I'd stayed up all night one day last week believing in a long-awaited win in that second Test. Absolutely shocked at the lack of any kind of strategy by the Pakster batters. Crass, dumb cricket play. I'm sorry, but each batsman spoon-fed their wickets to the Aus team, who placed their fielders intelligently.

Not exactly, their field placings in Pakistan's second innings were spot on. And, importantly, they held on to catches.

Not the last two (Ashes '09 and SA tour), they've been epic. Looking forward to England vs Pakistan and England vs India next.

Ist Test: Pakistan won by an innings and 64 runs at Rawalpindi:
From cricinfo.
It was their first victory at home in six years and came in the first Test to be played at Rawalpindi. Pakistan retained eight of their touring team in New Zealand earlier in the year. They included Mohammed Farooq who toured England in 1962 and Majid Jahangir who played against Australia in October 1964. Salah-ul-Din, an 18-year-old all-rounder, completed the side. New Zealand included Dick who joined the team due to an injury to Ward during the Indian tour. Reid made his 53rd consecutive Test appearance, thus beating Peter May's record of 52.
Hanif, winning the toss, caused little surprise by sending in New Zealand to bat. Half the wickets fell for 39, but Taylor defied the bowling for ninety-six minutes, hitting thirteen 4's in his aggressive 76, but New Zealand were all out for 175, twenty minutes before the time arranged for the tea interval. Pakistan soon lost Naushad, but Ilyas stayed just over two hours for 56, hitting eleven 4's and with Saeed, 68 in eighty minutes with thirteen 4's, added 114 in that time for the second wicket. At the close needed only 38 for the lead with three wickets down.
New Zealand's second batting attempt was worse than the first. In fifteen minutes before the close they lost four wickets for two runs and finished at 59 for six, still 86 behind. Next day, three more wickets fell at 59 - making five at the same total - and seven for two. Taylor and Collinge resisted for almost half an hour, but it was all over after only forty minutes' cricket on the third day. Pervez took four wickets for five runs, giving him eight for 47 in the match. Altogether the match lasted no mmore than twelve hours and forty minutes.

No - that's Pakistan vs New Zealand from 1964/65 - complete kettle of fish that series.
Re: Most disappointing test series for you.
England vs NZ '99.
Both teams were rubbish but England found a way of being significantly more rubbish than a team featuring Roger Twose. Huge great big barrel of sh*te.

Should've said 1989, but I've erased that experience from my memory.

Re: Most disappointing test series for you.
I'm sure there were a bunch of Test series throughout the 1980s that were shitefully disappointing from an Aussie fan's perspective. They all seem to have blurred into one.
I'm tempted to include the 2005 Ashes series. But given the f*ckheadedness of Ponting as a captain, some of that disappointment has been tempered.
The one that still rankles though, is the 1981 Ashes series. How a series could start so promisingly, then fall apart so completely, and have that underlined by the mammoth reversal in form of Botham. Add to that actually being an Aussie in England at the time. Lay-down misere that it tops the charts.

Faisal, I listed some more series than you did because I found them all heart breaking as an Indian fan. I hope that's ok.

I thought the Ashes 2005 and 2009 were disappointing because we didn't beat Australia by more.

So you're happy that your boys got bounced out for 100 by England in 2006 and ended drawing the series?
Rightio...

I actually remember that series as being quite entertaining (even if the overall quality was dross). Maybe the World Cup that preceded it just made it seem better by comparison.
It had Alex Tudor's outstanding match-winning 99* from night watchman - some quality swing bowling from Caddick and Nash on bowler friendly wickets, Peter Such's record breaking duck. Cairns' genius slower ball to Read. England's comedy triumpherate of Giddens, Tufnell and Mullally at 9, 10, Jack. And Ronald Irani trying to impersonate a Test cricketer. A task he managed better than Aftab Habib. Finally Chris Cairns assualt on Tuffers at The Oval to clinch a deserved win for the Kiwis.
Series played on the sub-continent tend to be disappointing for me, slow low pitches that stifle entertaining cricket. If it wasn't for that final day in Karachi the 3-Test series between England and Pakistan would have gone down as the dullest in history.
Re: Most disappointing test series for you.
I'd agree with Zog. Most Test series from 1984 through to 1988-89 were disappointing as we lumbered through the worst spell of uncompetitiveness for the Aus side that I witnessed in my nearly 40 years following the national team.

Ashes 2006-07 obviously..
I didn't have high expectations. But it turned from slim hope to crisis to debacle to repeated debacle to catastrophic shame-making farce.

India won that series
We should have won more than 1 test except for Misbah turning a potential 2-0, possibly even 3-0 result into a respectable 1-0 loss single handedly. I personally think that series was our best chance of inflicting utter humiliation on Pak team, results wise and yet we couldn't get results that were there for the taking.
