Fox Sports News suggesting that Warney is the 'high profile Aussie player' involved in match fixing in the IPL.
Would explain why he wasn't keen on making an international comeback. CricAus wouldn't be able to afford him.

Is a fluid table a specialised subterranean feature? Like a water table, but different.skully wrote:But it was just a fluid table to make him look good on the TV.

Re: Impending death of IPL
After Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Shilpa Shetty, team captain Shane Warne has come out in support of the suspended Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi.
Soon after the third season of cricketing extravaganza came to an end on Sunday, Warne chose to laud the suspended IPL commissioner's vision on a micro blogging site.
Warne tweeted and congratulated Modi on what he has created and for his vision. He said that the IPL was an amazing tournament and fun to be involved in.
Supporting Modi on the ongoing controversy, Warne said that all the allegations against him were outrageous.

Meh, the IPL is not going to die, it's still huge, whether anyone likes it or not.

Re: Impending death of IPL
Will be interesting to see how the young Indian fans react when all the muck has been outed. When in India and as all of this was unravelling, I can voucn that my Nephew and his mates were totally put off and felt that they had been taken for a ride. Even prior to that they were the opinion that there were too many matches and in fact this time around only watched their home team matches.doremi wrote:Meh, the IPL is not going to die, it's still huge, whether anyone likes it or not.

people didnt stop watching cricket after hansie, azhar, warne, etc. were caught. doubt they will now. hopefully the muck will be cleaned up, but the concept itself has proven to be a success
observers are already predicting higher ratings next year due to it being in school holidays, etc

Re: Impending death of IPL
IMO IPL-4 may not generate much interest primarily because,
1) It'll be held immediately after WC'11, and Indian people, premier reason for this extravaganza's mega success would've already got a surfeit of cricket at home.
2) 94 matches in 1.5 months (as promised by Lalit Modi, don't know how much would that be valid by next year). How could one play that many games in that short period of time even if its only T20?
3) Playing and attending so many matches in the heat of May-Jun.

Re: Impending death of IPL
If the bidding process is established to have been rigged will that nullify those deals ? Surely the other bidders are bound to take it to court that could turn this whole thing into a bigger mess.

That depends on whether the common fan is convinced that BCCI has seriously cleaned up IPL or just removed the Modi tumor as a scapegoat. The One wrote:people didnt stop watching cricket after hansie, azhar, warne, etc. were caught. doubt they will now. hopefully the muck will be cleaned up, but the concept itself has proven to be a success

Re: Impending death of IPL
the common fan will see the cricket. in india you expect corruption in any enterprise with big money and political interests. people in india still vote in elections even though the government is ridiculously corrupt
people will switch off if they either get bored of the game itself or a ridiculously big match-fixing scandal is unearthed. if that happens they will probably switch off from all cricket, as would most fans around the world i guess considering almost all the top international players play in the ipl

Re: Impending death of IPL
BCCI desperately needed the T 20 WC fig leaf to deflect attention from IPL and its other woes. Generally when India is winning all is forgiven and forgotten even it involves multi million dollar scandals. As much as I don't like India losing I am glad that the fig leaf has pretty much been snatched.

The muck spreads. Not sure that BCCI can get away by just lynching Modi as they might have entertained some thoughts. In a way I am glad since the fundamentals of BCCI is the core problem.

Re: Impending death of IPL
As much as I hate him, I agree with Lalit Modi here. Fiasco of this magnitude couldn't have taken place without the knowledge of BCCI's bigwigs and indeed the NCP leadership. 'Poor' Modi was just made the fall guy.
N Srinivasan being on the probe panel is perhaps making it a sham of a probe as himself is a big stakeholder in IPL.
