speed helps plus its better to watch Shoaib than Mcgrath...every one would agree with that.
On a flat pitch I would pick Akhtar of 2002 to 05 over McGraths and Pollocks
Rubbish. Do you also prefer Britney Spears (a flashy slapper) to Grace Kelly?

I predict this will be the last time Brett Lee plays for Australia. It was simply a marketing/sympathy/he sucks Nielsen's cock good decision to pick him in the squad in the first place.
In truth he's a washed up old hack.

the genuine fast bowlers tend to have better strike rates.
waqar, bond, shoaib
noone can deny a 90mph mcgrath would have been even more lethal than the 82mph mcgrath.

They opened it last summer vs the might of WI and the Paksters, JKL. And because of the attack's T20 success v those giants, the twatish NSP have seen fit to go to the T20 Gilly with the same attack plus an injured and grossly out of form Bung.JKLever wrote:Are Australia intending to open a pie shop?

I would suggest that the Paksters and Windies are both pretty strong T20 teams . . .

I agree with Smerky - McGrath would be the smart pick. Shoaib on a flat pitch would likely:
a) stop trying to bowl fast as soon as the shine had gone off the ball
b) pick up / feign injury
Between 1997 - 2007 Shoaib was only fit enough to play 46 out of 94 matches. In 2002-05 he only played 23 out of 37. And that's how many matches he started - he didn't always finish them.
The tough flat pitches you speak of such as the 2005 tour of India or the 2002/03 tour of South Africa he was absent. He managed to make the Zimbabwe tour though.
An example of McGrath vs Shoaib on a flat pitch in Shoaib's so called pomp:
link
McGrath takes 4-50 & 0-53, Shoaib bowls 15 overs (0-69) out of Australia's total of of 568 before picking up an 'injury' and not bowling in the second innings.
there are so many holes in that post that i don't even know where to start so i won't start and study for my finals instead.
you win.

How to WRECK the rest of the world:
Step 1 - Appoint a captain who has never performed at the form of the game being played in the tournament.
Step 2 - Pick the rest of the team based on marketability, not form
Step 3 - Head to the West Indies
Step 4 - Play Zimbabwe in a warm-up match and lose...

I would suggest Waqar was pretty quick in the 90's and was also pretty consistent. Could pick off a big toe at 22 yards with monotonous regularity I recall.Henry wrote:Being FAST is not everything. And I seem to recall a South African - Allan Donald I think his name was.
He took 300 odd wickets at about 25, and he was as quick & hostile as anyone - Ask Athers

At least when you crunch/shatter someone's big toe there is no doubt about it and amid the spattered blood and fragments of bone the umpire can confidently give the batsman out LBW.
If all you do with your speed and hostility is gently brush the top of the padding on the batsman's glove it doesn't matter if you have a row of Alan Knott, Rod Marsh and Bob Taylor behind the stumps, the umpire misses it and Athers saves/wins the game. A waste of all that effort no?
As it was it was Boucher who a few deliveries later dropped a clear edge off Athers. Tres amusement.
Got to go for the bodily harm every time to remove the doubt wouldn't you say?

Ah, doc - true enough about the TB game you're referring to - but that sme Donald dismissed Athers 11 times in the 18 matches England played South Africa.
In truth, I mentioned Donald to back you up in refuting Trevs' silly post about no genuine quick bowlers since the WIndians in the '80s. I think your second paragraph suggests that all Donald ever did was brush the top of batsmens gloves, but he hurt as many batsmen in his time as many bowlers ....

No no no no Growler; I was jesting. Donald was a very fine bowler and a great guy to boot and I am grateful to you for reminding me and the board about him. I am surprised I forgot him in my comment about the "no consistent fast bowlers since...."
I was not really descending to the level of the bowler equivalnt of BCL>SRT!

Re: Australia all set to WRECK the rest of the world....
Ach - that'll be a severe case of NSR on my part
You're right about Waqar of course - but his "partner in crime" Wasim was equally nasty and just as effective.
Just checking the ststs, and on pure numbers PP is right about Shoaib ... his figures are by no means poor. There is the feeling, however ( not totally misplaced IMO ) that he somewhat wasted his talent. Had he the heart, attitude and work ethic of W & W, I think he could have had more wickets than both.
