Afghanistan- Test status is coming their way soon...
One of their guys named Hamid was clocking at close to 90 mph, the other pace bowler was also quite impressive.

Well, Bangladesh was rushed to Test staus with undue haste, the Asian bloc would appreciate another vote.

the pace bowling talent in Afghanistan seems to be a LOT better than that in BD.

Come on now, Ash.
Afghanistan just need the opportunity and exposure to attacks like this on a regular basis.
They're miles off Test status, but with time and persistence, something will change.

Morkel and Steyn are very difficult to handle on such a surface and that too under lights...so dont worry about batting

>Implying Test cricket is as one dimensional as T20 cricket.
>Implying a 90mph bowler will succeed against world class batsmen on featherbeds

and that will be a great thing...Ash wrote:13-5 ,after 4 overs. all catches behind. yeah test cricket...another pakistan in the making
Pakistan made a very positive start to test cricket by hammering India by an innings in just the 2nd test match and then tied the series in ENG in 1954 so may be Afghans can do the game.

Afghanistan have worked a minor miracle to get where they are, but the reality is that they would be hard put to keep their heads above water in the County Second XI competition.
Let's not make the same mistake that was made with Bangladesh - the ICC have to put in some serious work in the next few years to make sure that the infrastructure is in place to support the national side.

Wise words, and I agree with them.

Ireland, Scotland and Kenya are all more deserving of Test status than Afghanistan. Indeed you could possibly put Canada on that list too.
But being more deserving doesn't mean they actually deserve it.

Stephen Tikolo would have had a good run in the longer format IMO. It's a shame he never got the chance (bar the four day Intercontinental Cup games).
Looked like the sort of player with maturity and experience on his back to cope with the harshness of the Test arena.

That would be the Afghanistan version of Brett Lee.
Bung has been Hamid in most test matches that he has played.
