Thanks, Jay, for putting up the thread. Odd how running a site always demands some charity stuff, doesn't it?

Oram is doubtful, but not definitely out. Fleming and Papps will probably be fit.

Bond - The biggest waste of talent due to injuries that I've probably seen.

Michael Mason is in the team because he lives near the airport.

Bruce Reid, Ian Bishop and Waqar had great careers but if not for injury they would have had truly Great careers.

Ian Bishop stands out amongst those 3 for being the biggest wasted talent due to injuries.

It's not like Waqar's career was ruined because of injury. He still ranks as one of the best of all time, but if not for his back(?) problems from 1994 onwards, he would have been truly special. Im not sure anyone has ever bowled quicker than he did between 1991 and 1994.

I think Waqar got injured quite late in his career.

Nah, Waqar was never quite the same bowler from 1995 onwards.

Lou Vincent is in the team because he put his hand up before anyone else.

Actually, Damien Fleming should have played a lot more Tests than he did. Injuries meant he rarely played more than a couple of tests in a row.

Jason Gillespie is another one. He was probably the worlds best fast bowler from 2000 to 2002 when he was jagging the ball both ways at 145 kph. I felt Gillespie was more dangerous than Mcgrath in the 2001 Ashes.
Gus Fraser could have been a great if not for injury and crap selections.

Schultz was never going to last with his girth.
So if he and Bruce Reid had split the difference we would have had two great lefties.

I'm not sure they'd pick both O'Brien and Mason to be hoenst. Both trundle swing bowlers.
Gillespie was taken as the Back-up to Bond and Martin, so could see him make his debut.

Schultz was never going to last with his drinking problem and lack of hunger for the game.
Re: South Africa v NZ, 2nd Test, Centurion, 16-20th Nov
Schultz was never going to last with his penchant for spending Saturdays cruising the streets of Port Elizabeth dressed in suspenders and a frilly blouse.
Vettori is only in the team because he has the complete collection of Batman comics.

Shultz was never going to last after being deprived of sex for 2 years.

Heard he's made plenty of 'bones' working in investment banking, couldn't he afford to buy you a ticket?
