Zat wrote:So Ricky was smart in saying he wishes Ireland had been able to hold on to Morgan? Or would that just have meant we'd lost to them last week?
I saw most of his innings for the Irish, and I couldn't see what the fuss was about - he'd never done it against the major teams. As Shaun Pollock said on commentary in SA, 'is this the same Morgan that used to play for Ireland?' - unrecognisable.

Morgan won't be in the test side.

I'm at a point now where I'll put money on the fact that Morgan will be in the Ashes test team come November.

So the poms are finally turning it around in the shorter forms of the game . . . always good to have a strong England to counter the subi bullshit . . .

Maybe the ICC should help out developing nations by picking occasional 'best of the non-test nations' teams. Either for the honour of it, or even for special matches.

When they played England it would be like a Possibles v Probables trial

Just looking at the scorecard it looked like that is the type of innings Pup needed to play. Without him being the anchor we could have been bowled out.
Also just from the scorecard, Morgan's dig sticks out like goat's balls. The rest of the cards for both sides have a markedly similar look

Frankly, I think it's the only role Pup is capable of playing in the one-day form of the game. Holding up (and I mean seriously slowing down) one end.G.Wood wrote:Basil wrote:I wonder how many Aussies are going to get stuck into Pup for not getting a ton and in particular not being a bit more gung ho in the final five overs.

Bevan was dumped from the Aussie ODI side after the 2003 world cup because he wasn't able to smash boundaries in the final overs. Similarly, Clarke just doesn't have a 5th gear to his batting.
Still, Aus would have struggled to reach 200 without his contribution yesterday. If Clarke is to bat anywhere in the ODI side, then it should probably be as an opener.

Bevo was dumped because he was 33 years old and would have been 37 at the next gilly ...so they gave someone 4 years to get enough ODI experience to replace him (and Paris has done a fair job of doing that) ...its probably the best bit of succession planning the NSP has done

Ponting will be 36 at the next world cup, and he's showing signs of not being quite the same player he once was. Should they dump him?

If it extended his Test career ...then probably
but compare apples to apples
Ponting is captain as well as the best batsman in the team
They've replaced Hayden , Gilchrist , McGrath and Hogg from the last gilly team . plus Symonds has self destructed and Tait , Bracken and Lee are probably gone from JAMODIs too
Bevan wasnt in the leadership group and was the "finisher"
If Ferguson didnt do his ACL last year then Hussey may have been eased out of the JAMODI team

I honestly think that Ponting is no longer the best batsman in the team. In tests, Clarke is now better, whilst in ODI's, Hussey and probably White and Watson are now superior players.

They showed an interview of Ponting by Atherton yesterday between innings.
You could tell which one of them went to Public School ... and this one utterance of his convinced me that the Punter does, in fact, have a brain the size of a shelled pea.
"I find captaining the team more challenging now than when we had the likes of Hayden, Langer, Gilly, McGrath and Warnie around .... "
You don't say Ricky !
Other than that one gem, it was the usual boring PC crap (when one could translate from Tasmanian-speak) about being proud, keeping fit, grooming the youngsters (interesting comment Rick ) looking forward to Ashes 10/11; both teams balanced; hope to be around for the next ODI WC ... rah rah rah ..
Despite it all ... he remains the best batsman for Australia.... and no doubt, they'll be farked when he's gawn ...
He played one cover drive yesterday that was wrapped up in elegance, power, and classic text book ... reminded me of a right handed Gower in his prime.
Crap at interviews though ........

Merls in "working out Drunky is thick as two short planks" shocker.
Haven't you been listening to us for the past 5 years, Merls??
And was the interview replayed with subtitles, given the speed at which Drunky speaks?
