World Series Cricket
The Howstat website have launched a section on WSC, reiterating the farcical nature of those matches not even being first class standard.
Looking through the stats from those matches, it is easy to see why Viv, Greg Chappell and DKL were so revered in that period and why they were the main targets for Packer.
Those stats should dispel any myth that Greg Chappell didn't play fast bowling well.

Given that the Rebel tours to Jaapan were given first class status, it is almost criminal that WSC matches aren't regarded at least of equal standing.
Given the utter dross that Australia was fielding in Tests in that era, it's ridiculous that WSC matches aren't classified as Tests and ODIs.

Mind you, it's more than a bit scary that the two players who played the most SuperTests (15 each) were Rod Marsh, and ... Ray Bright.

I think Candles got a guernsey by default because KP had no time for Mallet and Skull.

Re: World Series Cricket
It's fair enough not classing them as Test matches, but to not award them First Class status is just being pig-headed.
The matches were clearly of First Class standard. That is all that should matter.
I'm loathe to buggerise around with cricket's statistics but an exception needs to be made for WSC. The day those matches are included in First Class statistics will be a good and long overdue day for cricket.

It should have been part of the process when the ACB and WSC reconciled that the matches were included as Tests, it's too late now.
But yes, First Class status should be retrospecitvely granted.
Someone should start a petition.

Re: World Series Cricket
As I understand it, First Class status is the domain of the home board. So CA would need to approve it for the Aust Supertests and the WICB for the ones played over there.
We could start a spamming campaign against James Sutherland.

It would be a good chance for Sutherland to achieve something positive in his life. No-one wants to be remembered as a bloke who wasn't good enough to keep his place in the Vomit Shield team AND be a failed administrator.

I think the ICC and the Home Boards had their own agreements on this subject.
Sutherland wouldn't do it anyway. Someone should set up a stats website with the revised results anyway.

Well if i need a 14yo there's always tac I spose. I'll ask qmyjr about it.
Actually I had a look at the Howstat site. Just wonder how hard it is to combine the two sets of stats with a couple of clicks of the mouse.

Richards, B A | WSC World XI | 5 | 8 | 1 | 554 | 207 | 2 | 2 | 79.14 |
plus Garth le Roux's bowling average of 16 (from only 3 games)
I don't know whether to be disappointed or thankful that the saffers were qunts for so long
