Re: The Australian Federal Election 2010 Thread (III)
PMSL. You already have an alliance with the Greens. Take out the Green preferences and the Coalition sh!ts in the Election. There were numerous seats where the Conservatives had a higher primary vote but the Pinkos won after distribution of Green preferences. P!ss weak argument, Ponts.Paul Keating wrote:JGK wrote:Still, makes a mockery of that qunt Abbotts claim of the ALP having no legitimacy.
take out the nationals vote and labor has 900 000 more primary votes than the liberals.
Fark maybe time to form an alliance with the greens.
BTW, lardy sends his regards. He was worried you might have topped yourself at about 11.00 pm last night.

Correct me if i am wrong but you are saying getting first preference from the greens has the same value as a primary vote?
If we were an official alliance labor/greens would romp in

Just heard Tony Windsor on the ABC. He said the NBN was a big issue for him and that he thought Barnaby Joyce was a fool.

Yeah that's the downside. Still, he's a Torrie so we may do a straight swap.

I've been thinking about this and I reckon he's right. The Coalition plus a couple of independents are never going to get anything done with a Green senate and a DD is not going to solve that (and of course it would risk a loss of government anyway). At least ALP plus Green plus independents in the lower house are going to get bills through the Senate including the only two policies either party could possibly claim a mandate for - Mining Tax and NBN.
As Paul Howse was saying last night when Connie Right Wing-Bitch was saying this election will move Australia to the left and there is nothing surer than the Mining Tax and a Carbon Tax coming in - "sounds great".

Hehehe. You're an angry, angry man, JGK. Obviously not only were you raped by a Liberal pollster as a teenager, but Tony Abbott came around to the K mansion recently and kiddy-fiddled the 3 baby Ks.
So if the Conservatives form a minority govt (no certainty), the Drags inevitably choke and we lose the Ashes, will you be leaping off a tall building in a single bound - without the parachute??

The latter two I have already factored in to expectations. On the former, I will have about 10 grand from Mr Sportsbet to comfort me.

Barnaby was very entertaining on Nein last night - the same way a cat chasing its tail in a demented fashion is entertaining. What a twat.JGK wrote:Just heard Tony Windsor on the ABC. He said the NBN was a big issue for him and that he thought Barnaby Joyce was a fool.
Then again the loud-mouthed biatch at the other end of the panel (Gillard's biographer whose name doesn't interest me) balanced it out nicely.

Re: The Australian Federal Election 2010 Thread (III)
From the SMH:
Two of the independents whose vote appears crucial to forming a minority government have expressed loathing for Barnaby Joyce, one of the Coalition's most prominent frontbenchers.
While many election analysts suggest the independents, all former Nationals MPs, are more likely to side with the Coalition, Bob Katter and Tony Windsor have derided Mr Joyce; with one calling him a fool and the other labelling him a "piece of incredible unfortunateness.''
Mr Katter said he had not yet decided where his support would go, but pointed to continuing issues with former Nationals colleagues - and concerns over the Coalition's broadband policy.
He also said it was unfortunate that the Nationals leader Warren Truss "attacked me personally last night''.
''And (Nationals Senate Leader) Barnaby Joyce...a similar piece of incredible unfortunateness.''
He hoped the two other Nationals-turned-independents, Mr Windsor and Rob Oakeshott, would vote as a block to decide the nation's political future.
With just over 75 per cent of the vote counted, Labor and the coalition both hold 71 seats, with three independents and one Australian Green.
Four seats remain in doubt, the Australian Electoral Commission says.
Mr Katter, who was returned in the north Queensland seat of Kennedy, said he expected to meet in the next two days with the other independents.
He said they had worked together well in the past and that should continue.
He told the ABC the trio got "on very well together, we work very closely together, we have similar backgrounds and we've simply agreed that we'll walk in a room, close the door and not be taken advantage of by all you cunning media people''.
He said he'd not yet decided where his support would go but pointed to continuing issues with former Nationals colleagues.
Mr Windsor, who is on track to retain his NSW seat of New England, has said he'll gladly work with any political party but would not work with Senator Joyce, who he called a fool.
Mr Katter refused to divulge if he'd been contacted by Julia Gillard or Tony Abbott, saying only that he'd received phone calls from ''very powerful people'' who could influence the course of events. Mr Windsor revealed he had briefly spoken to Mr Abbott at 1.15am.
Mr Katter said improving the ethanol industry and broadband infrastructure were high on his agenda.
''A privatised broadband, I mean, please, don't even talk about it, privatised Telstra has been absolutely disastrous for rural Australia,'' he said.
A possible fourth independent, former Greens candidate Andrew Wilkie, along with Melbourne Greens candidate Adam Bandt, are expected to side with Labor.

Can anyone explain Denison to me - I had thought that if the Lib gets more primary votes than Wilkie then the ALP will piss it in on prefs.
Currently he does have more but there seems to be an assumption that Wilkie is in.

Truss and Joyce really did sh!t in their own nests last night. God knows what they were thinking. Then again, that's a country hick for you.
And no, I can't explain Denison.
So if the Indies do side with the Pinkos, does that mean we end up with a mining tax, a great big new ETS tax, a massively expensive NBN that will largely duplicate what people already have (albeit slightly speedier)?
Sure, you and I can probably afford to pay the extra tax begrudgingly, JGK (the ETS tax of course making fark all difference to Aus's contribution to world emissions) but what about all the pensioners and boguns westies who can't? A resultant massive backlash from pinko heartland?

Allan D wrote:Greens? Is there more than one now? I'm sure they won't, PK, but I doubt if Labour, if they stay in office, will be keen to revive CPRS or RSPT either. If so, they might as well resign now.
There will be 9 Greens in the Senate. The ability to get legislation through the Senate could influence how the indepedents break.

Surely the result in Qld makes it obvious that the two parties should officially merge now.
