Indeed. He is also talking up increasing import tariffs.
He is starting to make Andrew "I'll forgive the Liberals for trying to destroy me so long as I get lots of goodies" Wilkie look reasonable.

OK, just heard both potential PMs on the radio and reached the point where I think they should both be put in a room together, blindfolded, and some big blokes with baseball bats be allowed to beat them around their heads repeatedly until they both shut up, and one dies.
That way, we get a government, but one that won't make too much noise.

I'm a big bloke. I can find a baseball bat. I call first dibs on hitting Abbott over the head.

Looks like the economic numpties that are the Liberal party have a $10b hole in their budget.
At the same time, the Australian economy is the envy of the world to the point where it is hard to see how the Government could have managed it much better over the last 3 years.
Yet still most Australians think that the Tories are the better economic managers. Tony Abbott should be polishing Rupert's todger ever day for the term of his government as thanks for delivering him the keys to The Lodge.

Don't mention the current rash of extra super huge profit announcements from the miners.

I liked the tories "it wasn't an error, it was merely a difference of opinion"
So if I believe 1+1 = 2 and Mick Sawyer adamantly maintains that 1+1 = 3 is that an error or merely a difference of opinion?

1 + 1 = $10b. I couldn't even disagree with bl by that much.
So much for the "signed off, ratified, audited" proclamations. We snigger at cricketers and cricket boards over corruption and lack of civil accountability.

Abbott deserves this for going down the path he has, but this revelation doesn't really say much about who is the better economic manager.
Treasury simply has more resources than anyone else in the country and has a greater understanding of what assumptions need to be taken into account. Costello set this up in an attempt to snooker Labor in opposition. It has now come back to bite the Libs on the bum.
The people are right to be sceptical of Labor on the economy. They're going to have to give the ALP pass at the moment simply because Abbott is a numpty, not because Wayne Swann has any idea.

The people should always be sceptical but that's not what you meant. Care to flesh that out a little?

Mick
Abbot and Hockey are not even close to Costello (or Turnbull)
and Swan is no Keating (on some days I dont think he's a Kerin)
How about the differences between the RSPT and MRRT ...a tax that was only going to take $12 billion ...gets a major overhaul (lower rate , higher starting point and and exclusion of all but a few resources) and they only "lose" $1.5 billion off the rake ...
Swan and Treasury had their arsumptions handed to them by Rio BHP and XStrata on that matter
