The perils of self-whoring on twitter with a confusing tag Empty The perils of self-whoring on twitter with a confusing tag

skully will love this.

From today's 'The Tonk' in the SMH

Angry American mom doesn't give a tweet about cricket

The start of the Ashes has been relished by cricket fans throughout Australia, England, and other cricket-playing nations. The United States, seemingly, has not been captured by it. People wanting to share their thoughts on the series have been doing so on Twitter by adding #Ashes or #TheAshes to their messages, to ensure people monitoring those topics can see their contribution. But some have been mistakenly affixing @theashes to their messages. By doing so, hundreds of messages have been directed to @theashes, a woman from Westfield, Massachusetts, whose tweets have primarily related to her toddler's sleeping habits. Her first hints of irritation emerged about two days ago, when she replied to cricket fans who had contacted her, explaining: ''I am not a cricket match. Stop mentioning me and check profiles before you send messages. Its [sic] really annoying.'' As her frustration became evident her messages were retweeted by hundreds more, prompting an irate response from her yesterday. ''I AM NOT A FREAKING CRICKET MATCH!!!'' Once news of her frustration spread yesterday, cricket tweeters were mischievously urging people to follow @theashes for Test series updates. Stand by for her next tantrum.

I don't do twitter, nor do I read it, but I imagine this kind of thing would almost make it worth looking at for a few minutes.

"Its [sic] really annoying."

WTF sort of dickhead worries about missing punctuation in a "tweet"?

I was following the Ashes tweets and saw this too. She seems to be taking it well now, even including a cricket term or two in her tweets. And I guess it's not every day you get offered a flight to Australia. #qantasfail

I do when it makes the meaning of the message ambiguous.

"The perils of self-whoring" must surely include a severe bout of bewilderment whether you're buying of selling, and similar - possibly terminal - disorientation as to what constitutes acceptable trade and treatment of yourself, by yourself, for yourself.
