few stats for tendulkar
goes past 8,000 away test runs @ 56.86. 1400 clear of second-placed dravid and 2400 clear of third-placed lara
second non-south african after hammond to make over 1,000 test runs in south africa
most hundreds by a non-south african in south africa (5). thats the same number as the rest of the india since south africa's re-admission
4th consecutive year where his 1st test innings is a hundred
7th time he reaches a hundred with a six

Thats amazing stats. Thanks for sharing them.
I assume that him reaching 100 with a 6 that many no. of times is already a WR.

just saw the full highlights
that has to be the best display of fast bowling that i have seen in years. maybe in well over a decade
to have such late outswing at 140ks and with immaculate control - unbelievable
on another day he could well have blown away a test side for a lot less. steyn might well be the first ATG bowler to debut after 2000

I mentioned him because IIRC he also said that Eng are the best team in world. What do you've to say about that.
Well clearly he's been on some whacky substances then... don't think he's got too many supporters here of that opinion!

This is the full text of his interview.
Former Three Lions fast bowler Darren Gough has stirred controversy in cricket circles by saying that India are only champions on home turf, and that he fancies England beating the M.S. Dhoni-led squad every day of the week sooner than later.
Raising a toast to England's Ashes heroes, Gough said: "We're now the best team in the world. This team is the Golden Generation (of English cricket). They are the side that are going to dominate world cricket for the next few years."
The Sun further quoted him, as saying: "For me, we're the best team in the world at this moment. I've watched the South Africa-India series and I see nothing to worry about. India is fantastic in their own country and have some great individuals, but I'd fancy this England side to beat them every day of the week."
"I don't know whether that is because we're better than everybody else in sight or because we have a top-class spinner and five bowlers who could start a Test, no problem. We now have so many options, especially in attack, and the reason this team are so dominant is because we have 16 players who could have started the first Test match," Gough said.
Gough believes Strauss' heroes deserve the same accolades as the 2005 Ashes side, who were awarded MBEs and enjoyed an open-top bus parade through London.
He added: "Will this team get the same reception? Probably not. Do they deserve to? I would say yes." (ANI)

Bond sadly will not be remembered like that, but talent-wise, I'd have him level with Steyn. Poor guy just had absolutely no luck whatsoever.

It was one of those days that one sees maybe a dozen times in a cricketing lifetime; great versus great, both peaking and playing flat out, no winners or losers at the end of it.

He's a great fast bowler, but Dale Steyn shows that South Africa still haven't got rid of that fearful, safety first mindset which has held them back so often in the last 20 years-
"The first thing we need to do is make sure we have enough runs so that we don't lose the match," Dale Steyn said at the end of play on day three. "Then, we will think about setting a target."

So you think they should get enough runs to win the game before making the game safe?

Sometimes you have to risk losing in order to win.

Nothing wrong with Goughy. Much rather he talks up our team than turn into a miserable old git a las Harvey, Gavaskar or Illingworth.
Plus England are playing excellent cricket at the moment, we should fear no-one.
Re: South Africa v India, 3rd Test, Cape Town, 2-6 Jan, 2011
Goughie is a bit like Beefy- Fiercely patriotic, and happy to talk up the England team at every opportunity. His heart will more often than not overrule his head when giving his opinion.

Re: South Africa v India, 3rd Test, Cape Town, 2-6 Jan, 2011
Steyn has this to say about Tendulkar's innings:
"Sachin is a really good player. I have heard one or two guys remark about the speed and everything I have been bowling at, but he is such a good player, there is no point wasting your energy bowling at him. You tend to save your energy and tend to bowl at other guys. If you bowl a good bowl to him, or a No. 11 batter, it's going to remain a good ball. So it was a good contest going on."

Who do no modern players use the word 'batsman' any more? Political correctness gone mad?
