30 years to the day
...since GSC ordered little brother Trev to roll the last ball of the game underarm at snoozer Brian McKechnie.
Good times.
Good times.

Re: 30 years to the day
And in a particularly odd co-incidence it is Graeme Smith's 30th birthday today.

Heh really? I was born 4 years after the sookathon then. Must be why I'm inclined to occasionally sook about necroing and elders and whatnot then.

Re: 30 years to the day
To hear the cheating qunt talking about it... "Oh, it was a culmination of things.... it was a protest to my own board" - f*ck off you cheating piece of sh!t. The Kiwi batsman who lobbed his bat should've charged a slotted both Chaps. In fact, he shouldn't have bothered blocking the ball, just ran past it and knocked him the f*ck out.

Hmmm - wonder were there any cricketers born 9 May 1977? 14 Dec 1960? 19 Aug 1975? 13 Feb 1971?

14 Dec 1960?
Mo Matthews would be close from memory.

Sort of like what Vic Richardson should have done to Jardine in 32/33.

Pffffft, half of those deliveries could've been dispatched for six over midwicket, fine leg, even a loft the other way - down over third man or something.
With today's bats, of course.
Plus, I don't think Aus needed six to win off the last ball.
Re: 30 years to the day
That's right. In fact, my mum could have twatted most of them over the ropes with a stick of rhubarb, never mind a modern bat.
Those sooky Aussies were the gayest mard-arse cricketers ever to take the field.

Greg Chappell's "it was a protest to the board" is a giant cop-out.
The ridiculous schedule and his unsportsmanlike conduct were two separate issues.

Same with Bodyline. It wasn't so much the tactics as the MCC's response to criticism that riled most Australians.

Re: 30 years to the day
Re the uinderarm: I was at the front of the necktie party right up to the moment a certain minor-league politician stuck his oar in,
Greg Chappell admitted fault and effectively declared himself unfit for the upcoming England tour.. The reasons he gave explained what was going on in his head but did not excuse him, and the issues he raised may have been separate but they were issues nonetheless. That whole summer had been an ill-tempered pain in the arse, and about 10 days later it was to reach its low point when Australia collapsed to a one-legged Kapil Dev for 80-odd to lose its first (but only its third last) unloseable Test for 1981. He read the warning signs, and came back not quite the batsman but about 1000% of the captain he had been, and the victory in Ashes 82-83 was mainly down to his leadership.
But let's never deprive Danny of the chance to trot out his Frankie Abbott 'look at me I'm so hard and so angry and so farqing dangerous' routine.

Aww c'mon Fred, don't be like that. You're conforming to the bitter Victorian stereotype. Although I do sign my cheques 'Rick Danger'. I doubt you'd have been so vehement in your response if you didn't rate him as one of Aus' best batsmen - for instance, if it was Kim Hughes, you wouldn't have written a word.
CHEAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: 30 years to the day
Danny, don't knock Kim Hughes. If it weren't for him, we'd have nobody to compare Ponting's ineptitude as a skipper to.
