Glenn Mitchell resigns from ABC

I may have heard from someone who may know some people at the ABC that Mitchell has a serious mental problem that he has been working through for quite a while ...

Not saying she's not informed and Mitchell is batting above his average in the relationship but her voice is irritating on Grandstand during the summer, as is Simone's. Mitchell has a good head for radio but he's polished and informative to listen to.

Karen Tighe and Simone Thirtell both command Grandstand and link its constituent parts with knowledge of the games(s), authority, balance, and good humour. They interview well and their voices aren't remotely irritating.

A woman who's drop dead gorgeous and loves sport. Mitchell was a very lucky guy.

I think Sarah, the moderator on the old ABC forum (and another honey), was a bridesmaid at the wedding. Shame about Mitchell, hope it sorts itself out.

Pity we'll miss his dulcet tones next summer.

Nothing wrong with their knowledge but their voices smack of the oleganinous. I have friend who agree with this view. The male voices are much more pleasant to listen to.

If you're going to resort to your virtual Thesaurus to find a disparaging word, you could at least copy it down properly.

Corben Middlemiss (has to be a made-uip name) and Clint Wheildon hosted the ABC Grandstand show from Perth that was fed into Melbourne. Glenn's name was not uttered any time I was listening - usually if a bloke as well known suddenly jacks it in with any kind of health issues surrounding he at least gets a 'get well' call, or somebody at least goes thru the motions of putting the wildest rumors to rest..

Raising the possibility that GM is persona non grata with the Akelas, or his colleagues, or both, or all of the above....hope to be wrrong, but the impression wasn't good.

Well, given Mitchell had the massive blow up with Wheildon (sp?) (see the article I posted yesterday - page 3 of this thread) it's not surprising that he wouldn't mention Glenn's name. From the article...

Mitchell and Wheeldon, who sit next to each other in the ABC's East Perth building, had a heated argument early last week.

The email was then forwarded to ABC management.

Mitchell, who is married to Grandstand's Karen Tighe and is now believed to be in South Africa, handed in his resignation last Friday."

Well that kinda confirms that story wasn't BS - if it was then Wheildon had the perfect chance to scotch it but didn't.

And Wheels wasn't only bloke not daring to speak the name - Ken Judge and John Annear were in the studio as well. Earlier on Gerard Whateley nearly bit the end off the phone when Ian Cover made a very oblique reference to it during the Coodabeens live cross.

I'd say CLINT, and everyone else at ABC, have been told to shut their face about the matter.

This is really sad. Mitchell was always highly reasonable on air and didn't seem like the sort of bloke who do this. It must also be putting a stack of stress on Tighe's position and/or their marriage. Do they have kids?
