Hoggard's destruction of South Africa in 2004/05 is my fondest memory of the Yorkshire swinger.

Can we really pick Si Jones? He was very good, but did he ever, ever complete a Test Series without getting injured? In the Windies maybe - but he didn't bowl all that well for most of that series.

So how can you pick a player who never even played a full series? He was good for a spell or two and then got crocked. Could have been a great, but his action, and his body couldn't handle it.

Jimmy will keep running in time after time, even if he's bowling badly he will still bowl quick at 400/4 on the second day.

Composite XI (especially seeing as no-one has picked Bell yet....)

Cook '10-11
Strauss '04-05
Trott '10-11
Vaughan '04-05*
Bell '10-11
Prior '10-11+
Flintoff '04-05
Broad '10-11
Swann '10-11
Anderson '10-11
Harmison '04-05 (with the disclaimer that if Tremlett maintains his form for the rest of this Summer he is the deadly tall fast bowler that Harmison never quite became, always falling short of his potential)

And yes, I couldn't quite believe I ended up picking Broad either. But there you go. I'm an egit.

But, in my defence: You only need one swing bowler, and Anderson > Hoggard. Tremlett (injuries) and Harmison (mentality) are both a little weak, so you wouldn't pick 2. Si Jones is permanaently crocked. Flintoff is a shoo-in as the first change seamer / talisman. Who else is there - Bresnan?! Saggers?! Giles FFS! Also with only 5 specalist bats, Broad as number 8 and a fourth seamer who can bowl a containing spell or rough a batsman up has a certain charm.

12th Man = Collingwood (04-05 or 10-11)

Or on second thoughts, maybe sacrifice Vaughan's captaincy for Pietersen's 'Skunkhead' era version. Just make sure he fields at 3rd man or fine leg the whole time.

I would have thought that what he did in 05 was enough to get him in.

I'd rather see Oz play an England side with Broad in it rather than SiJo

Yeah, but he would get crocked. It might be after the first game, or if you're lucky the fourth. He wouldn't last the series. And you would probably be a bowler light too for the rest of a match while he's getting the ice pack treatment.

Sad, because like Tyson, otherwise he'd be a contender for an AT England XI.

It's a valid concern but I have the view that these ATG sides are never going to actually play - so for me, issues like physical fragility don't come into it.

Welshist. Either that or you feel SiJo is a more formidable threat and less of a petulant man child.

Brainf*ck, I'll go through it with you...

Woody is Australian. For that reason he supports Australia... are you with me so far? Hope so.

Therefore the England team he'd rather see is a worse one, as he's probably hypothetically matching them up against Aus or even someone else.

So he's saying Simon Jones is a better bowler and hence he'd rather see Broad in the team.

F*ck me, if you need anything else translating 'holla at ur boy'.

I always enjoyed watching Hoggy's bowling. Is he still playing in any form of the game?

Pork? Like my man Ticklah says:

Some of them are pork eater eh, piggy wiggy
Them eat of the swine, don't know what's on their mind

Don't try the NSR poo defence, you've been done up like a kipper - or is that piggy wiggy?

I think it's "Mae fy hofrenfad yn llawn llyswennod" day in Wales. It means they enter a place, shout about pork and leave for the pub, or "y dafarn"
