CA axes the Tri-Series
As was widely tipped, CA has abandoned the Tri Series from next summer...
story
Not sorry to see it go, to be honest.

Prefered the tri-series, but I guess things have to change least the JAMODIs are still to be played vs the Saffies and NZ

Re: CA axes the Tri-Series
Agree the format was looking pretty tired and some teams weren't exactly fanatically motivated. You only need compare NZ in the tri-series last year with the 'Baz & Trev' series.
England didn't so much win it last year as have it land in their lap. There's been nary a mention of it on the forum since, even from the likes of Mudge, which tells its own story how high the series rates.

I really hope that the five ODIs against the snoozers won't be in addition to the three Underarm-Wanker matches.

Australia and New Zealand actually produce some very good ODI games, imo.

Re: CA axes the Tri-Series
An astute observation.
Besides the day Trev played marbles, there's also been:
- the Bruce Reid hat-trick game
- the Hobart game in 90-91 (NZ by one run, Reid run out off second last ball of last over, which began with Aust needing two to win)
- the first game of the 87-88 series when Dean Jones led a last charge with Australia needing triple figure runs in single figure overs and fell two short
- (shudder) last years Chadlee, which was meant to be the foretaste of doom in the WC

The Shaggers always lift when they play us. But it's hard to see them being competitive with the listed team. We'll see, I guess.

- Last season there was also the game (in Perth?) where Oram almost got NZ home chasing a big totalFred Nerk wrote:An astute observation.

- the Chappell-Hadlee a couple of seasons ago - NZ chased down one 300+ score and almost chased down another
- Bevo's heroics in the 01/02 season
- Bevo again with Andy Bichel at Port Elizabeth after Bond had ripped apart the top order

Aye, Aus v Snoozers produces many great games. And it adds to the value of the games that we really, really hate losing to the numpties across the ditch (cos they really, really like to rub it in if they win).

Sums it up beautifully. If they didn't care so much I doubt we would either!skully wrote:And it adds to the value of the games that we really, really hate losing to the numpties across the ditch (cos they really, really like to rub it in if they win).
