Typical weak current pinko softc0ck attitude - "it's all the Opposition's fault". Keating would kick you in the nuts for saying that.

What question, MrK? You merely blamed the Opposition like the Vulture and the Goose have been doing. For proposed legislation to not get through, the Indies and the Green qunt must also be playing a part.

And the Vulture goes on about "playing politics". FFS, Keating must secretly despise the current pissweakness of this pink mob.

Or should you pose it as a question, L? Oi Mick and JGK, why did the pinkos oppose the GST for so long?

The obvious answer is "they were the Opposition." Rolling Eyes

The Opposition doesnt hold the balance of power in either House so cant stop Jack without the help of some of Gillard's indies or puppetmasters

All that Rabbott can do is tell us that the taxes are Great and New and Big and Shiny and how much they will cost you ...the Govt's job is to outsell his bluster ...and if the reforms have passed the bluff test of the tax forum that should be easy

I get that and agree.

At the very least these matters have received a relatively open airing without the static that makes the usual exchanges between politicians a farce.

Not so - the ALP opposed it while they were in government and Keating said he would vote for it in Opposition if Hewson had won in 1993.

So, do you have an answer to my question to MB?

I can rephrase it if you like - would the tax forum have been a waste of time if the only reason that no action comes from it is if the Opposition opposes any proposed reforms?

That's not right. Both Abbott and the Greens voted down the ETS for different reasons (Abbott for political reasons, the Greens because it didn't go far enough). Doesn't mean it was a bad idea in the first place.

fwiw I think the GST should be 15%.

The first target offsets would be all state taxes and duties and the gouging perpetrated by their qangos & local government.

Stamp Duty on real property should still remain or at least be converted to an ongoing land tax (even on family homes).

How is what I said not right about the opposition ...the Greens are supposed to be coalition partners of the govt and it would take their Senate votes to reject any reforms ...the opposition will oppose because they can

Er, the Opposition was expressly not invited, and it was still a waste of time, so your question is pointless. Stop looking for excuses, you pinko sooks, and tell your heroes to get on with governing the country, FFS. Rolling Eyes

Stamp duty on the transfer of land is utter theft however all sides of politics are guilty of exploiting it. If i buy a house with my own money, why should i have to hand over 20-30 grand to the farking government. They provide no goods, no services....nothing. Its legalised theft & always has been.

Unbleat.

I repeat ... at present the opposition CANNOT effectively obstruct any legislation in either house, without the support of a dissenting ALP member or Greens/Independent Coalition partner. Nor have the opposition obstructed any legislation during this term of parliament without the support of a dissenting ALP member or Greens/Independent Coalition partner.

unbleat ...

But you and the rest of the Tories accept that the Greens in particular are economic vandals whose views will often be against the greater good of the nation.

So it isn't hard to see an instance where a tax policy reform that is ostensibly a good one might be opposed by the Greens with their socialist agenda. In that instance, only the Opposition would be to blame for voting down a good reform.

Anyway, as I said, the thread has moved on.
