Good workman like win. Bit concerned by the lack of wickets to Ffud in the 4th innings...
Rhino was excellent as always. Very good underrated player; hope we can keep him on the park for the next few years.

We were using it in club/shires cricket in the early 90s. It is certainly in wide use in cricketers circles.
I've heard Damien Fleming use it in commentary as well.

Good win for Aus. Tough going in parts. I reckon it was not far off being a really good Test wicket. Dunno if there's loads to have been 'learnt' from this though, to take it at it's ponceyest level - Johnson is shite, Harris is very good, Khawaja produces very lovely sub-50 scores, Watson is becoming an excellent cricketer for Australia, there must be a better opener for Aus than Phillip Hughes. This was all known beforehand.
I like Lyon's action, he should be stuck with for a while - expect 5 wickets in an innings will afford him this.
Flangelo was unlucky in the end.

Er, maybe it's 1st to lose three Ashes series then. I'm probably numb to these heinous records.JGK wrote:skully wrote:He's the only Captain to relinquish the Ashes twice, vilks.

Eurosport2.

It's universal. I think I've heard Nass, Bumble, Warne amongst others use it.

Yep ... wonder if we ever played against one another? I think we were called Epping? I only played a few games over 2 seasons (1992-3), didn't bowl much, opened the batting in those days.

Maybe - what grade? I mostly played 4th grade and we certainly played Epping in those years.

Was there a 4th grade? I thought I played 3rd grade, but I doubt there was a lower grade. What team did you represent?

I'm sure you would remember JGK. He was the bloke telling folk they were batting really well seconds before they got out.

Heh, how good a skill would that be? Praising up a bloke from slips, next ball he loses his middle stump. [team pats JGK on the head]WideWally wrote:I'm sure you would remember JGK. He was the bloke telling folk they were batting really well seconds before they got out.

Aye, he wouldn't be a bad shout for the 3rd seamer in a current World XI after Jimmikins and Stain have bowled with the new nut.

Oh dear Flangelo Gashews.
14 Tests and 50 odd ODI's and still no ton. A 99 and a 95. He's also never scored under 5 in his Test Career to date. Which is slightly unusual also.

Ol' flangegash surprised me in ways, he fluked his innings' continuance a couple of times but in between looked 'punchy'. Maybe it was the whole losing cause cliche.
Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 1st Test, Galle, 31 Aug - 4 Sep, 2011
Fairly straightforward win once Mahela was got out.
Australia renascent - SL have to think again. Where is their batting? Mind you, having Malinga and Vaas back would help

Clearly fell victim to the Nervous Nineties. He had a ton for the easy nabbing but played a god-awful heave-ho shot and lost his off stump.Gary 111 wrote:Oh dear Flangelo Gashews.

Fell victim to an exceedingly dodgy curator. Aus's hit the deck hard quicks were far more penetrative than Lanka's spinners, even though Herath took 9. And the discipline the 4 quicks Aus showed was outstanding. Just built pressure without allowing any cheap runs until the Lankans cracked.PeterCS wrote:Fairly straightforward win once Mahela was got out.

Lyon did well to get 5 on debut but one feels that will be his best Test analysis for quite a while (maybe his whole career). He has promise but the Lankans played him pretty easily in the 2nd dig when they applied themselves.
